View Full Version : Shooting ball in a BAR hunting rifle
I have numerous bolt action rifles, but my only 30/06 is a semi
bar hunting rifle.
So my question is, am I safe to shoot ball ammo in this rifle?
If their are caveats involved in firing such ammo, i'm all
ears.
Thank's for your input..

you can use softpoints in the BAR, you dont have to use FMJ.
Also, I'd be a little wary of shooting FMJ at anything if I didn't have to.

thank's for the response stick, but the rifle was manufactured
for soft point hunting ammo.
I was wondering if ball would have any detrimental effect on
the rifle. I'm well aware of the pro's and con's of what to
shoot FMJ at.
Shoot it all you want, won't hurt a thing.

That's the type of input that I was hoping for. Thank you, but
keep the cards and letters coming.

yep like he said, no issues with FMJ
M2 Ball should be fine in any rifle chambered for 30-06. It's basically a 150 grain bullet ahead of a charge of IMR 4895. The velocity is generally a little less than commercial 30-06.
Just note that if you are shooting vintage surplus, the primers may be corrosive. Corrosive ammo won't hurt your rifle unless you don't clean it thoroughly after shooting.
Thanks again. I figured that there probably wasn't any problem
with the surplus ball, but I figured asking couldn't hurt.
There will be NO corrosive ammo go through my Belgian BAR!
