View Full Version : New S&W owner =-)
Hey guys, not new to the 10mm (G20) but i am new to the Smith autoloaders. I'm picking up a S&W 1076 next week from a fellow GTer, and i find myself with a few questions. Thanks in advance, you guys are always helpful.
-Best source for extra mags for this gun?
-I hear the Smith autos are real reliable, any ammo in particular that you guys have noticed performs well in your 10 series guns?
-Where or who makes a decent carry rig for these guns that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and i'm not relly into the custom jobs. . .
-Anything else i should know? I'm real excited!!
I have shot a good bit of the remington 180 fmj, and of course Double Tap. For holsters I can recommend the desantis pancake (both with thumb break and without) made for the sig p200, they fit the 4 1/4" 45s and 10mms like a glove. I have also used a galco Miami Classic made for the P220. For mags check out Cdnninvestments and th auction sites, although the supply has been getting used up of late, due to increased demand.

S&W still sells mags, grips, sights, etc. when they are in stock.
The S&W is a great gun, most will digest any 10mm you feed them. You should like it.
There's a guy over on 10mmtalk.com that has a pair of mags for $40. I don't know him, but that's a good price on the mags.
Just F.Y.I. ...
... check out www.midwayusa.com for S&W 10XX-series mags.

S&W auto's of that gen are great (can't speak for sigma, M&P, or 99). I have a 4013 and it has been flawless for 15 years or so. You have to order parts by phone but S&W are very helpful and parts are relatively cheap.
I like my G-20 but would kill for a crisp sa trigger break when targeting @ 50 yds from bench. that pull seems like forever.

Midway told me they were out and I couldn't backorder any magazines.
Thanks for all the help guys!
Not that I could tell a difference in reliability, but just an FYI, there are 2 or 3 types of S&W 10mm mags. The early ones have a yellow follower. The newer ones have a white follower and have Accuglide imprinted on the side. I own several of each type and do not have issues with either in my 1066. I have heard of a 3rd type but can't recall the identifying factors. Guess it is like Glock changing their followers all the time. There are a couple of S&W forums on the net too.
