Hi All,
Been shopping around lately, surfing the locals shops, on-line shops and auctions, etc., etc.
I originally wanted the MK9 Elite (well, a P239 actually), then reasoned that a PM9 would fill my needs nicely, then came across a (local) deal on a LNIB MK9 (no ns) for $499 with 2 mags. and full mfg. warranty.
This seems like pretty good price to me.
Is it a 'too good to pass up' deal, or about avg.?
Thanks,
Rob
I was Kahr shopping today, too! ...... I'd say a used MK9 without NS is not a spectacular deal, but not out of line.
I ended up getting a MK40.

Check out gunbroker.com. There are a few of them in that price range......but, you have to consider the FFL fees and shipping. Considering that, your deal is looking better all the time!

hogship,
You are correct - it's all part of the equation, including the risk of purchasing 'sight unseen', albeit their are pictures, but that is not the same as touching / operating.
I also have a Kel-Tec P-11 that I want to trade in, and although I won't get much for it (~$120'ish?), the shop will take it off my hands.
As far as gunbroker.com and other sites like it, the MK9's seen there are not selling for some reason (the auctions / ads keep rolling over). The prices may be a little to high, and folks just may be a little cautious for the obvious reasons.
That said, guns put up for sale on sigforum.com seems to sell pretty quickly, which I attribute to a membership 'trust' sort of thing.
I'll be checking out the MK9 tomorrow.
Thank you for your input.
Rob
I think the reason the MK series aren't selling as well as they should, is because the PM series is the current "hot seller". Buyers are willing to pay more for a little less weight.....even though the all steel Kahrs seem to have a much better reputation for reliability. This isn't to discount the fact that there are many PM's where the owner has no issues with reliability, but there are just too many sad stories circulating with the poly Kahrs at the moment. I feel the poly Kahrs, for the present time, are still a gamble.
When I was in the gun store, I picked up a MK40 and a PM40, and although there is a 7oz difference between the two, I was having a hard time detecting the difference in my hands. If I really concentrated on it, I could tell the difference, but it just wasn't as easy as one would expect. I did a little experiment and asked the salesman (who happens to be a friend of mine) to close his eyes while I put a PM40 in one hand, and the MK40 in the other. He did choose correctly, but it took some time and considering before he made his decision.....and even at that, he wasn't absolutely sure. After that little practical "real world" test, I felt the MK series was what I wanted!
I don't think you will be hurt by the $499 price tag on the MK9 you saw. And as you say, there is merit to being able to avoid additional shipping costs, FFL fees, and to have that little pistol in your hands for a "hands on" inspection prior to buying.

Hogship,
I went, I saw, I bought!
It was in great shape with only 30 rnds. down the pipe, and got a decent amount for the Kel-Tec P-11 I traded in.
Can't wait to hit the range!!
Regards,
Rob
P.S. - Thank you for sharing your Vietnam photo album, and more importantly, THANK YOU FOR SERVING THE U.S.A! God Bless!!
