Day before yesterday, I bought this MK40, with night sights, brand new, for $499. I had seen it the day before that, but returned Thursday to make the purchase after checking on pricing elsewhere. The purchase was made at a local Sportsman's Warehouse. This particular MK40 was a display model, and they didn't have any more of them. Their current price is about $699, or there abouts. It was on display for some time, and had the old price on it still.....that's why the price was so good on a new MK40.

Originally, I was thinking about a PM9, but one without night sights was $599, and $699 with the night sights. Since I already have a K40 Kahr, and the magazines will interchange between the two, it wasn't hard for me to convince myself that this MK40 was the way for me to go. I did have concerns about all the bad press the Kahr polymer pistols have been getting from disappointed owners, as well.....so, for that reason, I was willing to give up about 7oz difference in weight for the reputation of reliability the all steel Kahrs have.

I intend for this to be a "pocket" gun and will be getting an appropriate leather holster for that purpose....and possibly get a Smart Carry rig for it, as well.

I've owned my K40 Kahr for about 7yrs now, and it's always been very reliable and accurate.....so I'm a long term Kahr fan. Buying another was an easy decision for me to make.

Regards, hogtooth

This is the new MK40 along side of my old K40:

Although, I have other ccw options, I'm a great fan of small, stainless and thin, for this purpose. I expect these four will be my ccw staple, while the others I have will only be used occasionally:

Denfoote.....

Nope, haven't had a chance to escape to the range as yet. I hope to do that sometime this weekend.....I hope! It will probably take me a few trips before the 200+ rd break-in is completed. This is because I'm really not looking forward to very many shots in a single setting. I'm not too anxious, though, being as I have other ccw options and I don't yet have a holster.

My K40 is a little difficult for me to take, because of the more powerful 40s+w cartridge. I've never been able to shoot more than about half a box of ammo through it before I've had enough. My new MK40 ought to be about the same, so I know what I'm in for. The difference in weight between the K40 and MK40 is only about an ounce, so the recoil ought to be about equal between the two. Can't wait....ouch! The way I figure it, though, is if an emergency ever comes up, I won't notice the recoil at all, until later.

Do I hear any suggestions for leather?

Since the frame size is equivalent to the K40, I already have a Galco "Miami Classic" shoulder holster and a Don Hume OWB that will serve double duty for both the K40 and the MK40. For the MK40, I'm considering pocket carry and a Smart Carry, but nothing chiseled in stone yet.

This is an old pic, but shows the Miami Classic Galco, and the Don Hume OWB. There has been other firearms and holsters added to the ccw list since it was snapped.

I saw you "good deal" thread and wanted to wish you congrats. In addition, I'll make all of you envy me for a deal My ffl got in a MK9 and put the extra mags on the rack at $14.99 each. I bought all four. All in Pristine shape.

I only wish some of them would have been 7 or 8 rounders I could use in my TP9...

Hog,
I've taken to hoofing around my MK9 in a DeSantis Nemisis pocket holster.
It's not as a fast on the draw as other methods, but you can't beat the concealment!! With it, I can look "civilized" with my shirt tucked in instead of looking like one of them hippies!! ;)
