A 10MM M&P would sure be nice, but you read my freakin' mind on this one, smith10. Considering that adding scandium to the aluminum alloy makes the frame stronger, I'm hopeful that the frame would be strong enough to hold up to a diet of hot 10MM ammo. A 5" gov't lightweight and steel frame would be sweet too.

I could stand to see both the Model 57 and the 28 again. I wouldn't mind too much if they limited production to only the 4" and 6" versions. I also understand they never existed before but I would even like to see the .41 Magnum in a N Frame gun similar to the Model 21 or 22 as well. Also offer it with all three finishes as options, (color case, blue, and nickel). Also give us the same 21 or 22 options in .45 Colt as well as maybe the Model 25 again, (skinny barrels and fixed sights or adjustable sights, with a choice of all three finishes).

Also give us a chance to pick up a rimfire like the old .22/32 Target (latter Model 34 I believe). A J Frame with maybe a choice of 3", 4", or 5" barrels, and once again in the three finishes mentioned above. If it's possible to fit the cylinder length give us a choice of .22LR, .22WRM, or .32H&R Magnum/.32S&W Long. These would be kit guns without equal.

The above choices included with their current production of the 21, 22, 24, 36, and 40 would be fairly much all I could ask or hope for. (No lock as an option would be nice but I'm not going to hold my breath for that one.)

I am happy that Smith & Wesson seems to be making an attempt to bring out some of the models that have been recently requested! I understand they're also hoping to make money on doing so, and that's great if they do. After all if they didn't they'd end up shortly like Winchester and other gun manufacturers that couldn't stay ahead of their losses. (And if they rake in some great profits set some in investment accounts, a "war chest", for the next time the Democrats control the executive and legislative branches.) I'm also extremely glad that their board of directors didn't make choices like Colt's made; concentrating on police and military markets and pretty much leaving the rest of us hanging. Not to say Colt won't sale their current products to those of us that want them, but rather they pretty much allowed most of their handgun line to dry on the vine. I'm grateful that S&W at least seems to be trying to hear and respond to consumers.

For that thanks Smith & Wesson! :)

Dave, I just picked up a new 57 Mountain Gun like this:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=71350600
and it is a sweet gun. It's more fun to shoot than my 29 Mt. Gun and it is remarkably accurate. The only thing at all negative I can say is it has a bit of a heavy trigger, but that is really picking nits. It'll probably improve with use.

Hi Short Cut,

That's a nice looking revolver in an even nicer caliber! It's a shame the .41Magnum never became more popular than it has, (in spite of its small but loyal group of fans). The other thing that would have been nice (still would for that matter) is if the .41 Special (as described by John Taffin and some others at handgunner.com) would have became a reality in factory loaded cartridges and firearms. The milder caliber might then have had a chance in some of the considerably smaller (then is possible with either the .44 or .45 caliber belly guns) 5-shot cylinder model revolvers as well. With the side benefit of giving the owners of the larger model .41's the same versatility of the .38Special /.357Magnun and .44Special /.44Magnum guns.

In '72 or so I had my mother "pick-up" (bought in her name actually as I was only seventeen at the time) a 4" Model 57, cased in the blue felt lined hardwood presentation case. I was home after the completion of Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) prior to shipping to my first permanent duty assignment overseas. I had received half of my enlistment bonus and bought each of my three brothers a rifle of their choice, (Marlin 336 .30-30, Interarms .30-06 bolt, Winchester 94 .30-30, in descending order by their ages), and the Model 57 was my second handgun in as many weeks. The week prior I had bought my first handgun a 6" Royal Blue Colt Python. Before taxes the Python cost me $196. NIB and the Model 57 was $228. NIB, (the extra I suppose because of the case and cleaning kit).

I had both of those guns for many, many, years and became very proficient with either. When I was home on leave my brothers and I would drag the revolvers and some rifles (one being a German military 8x57 with the issued battle sights) back to the slate and slag dumps at the mines. We'd sit on a hillside looking across at another hillside and shoot at rocks, circles in the snow (depending upon the season), or little depressions and watch/count for the shot/splash to see how long it took the bullet to reach the target. A number of times we'd have those battle sites on the 8x57 ran up to between 400 to 600 meters and then would switch to the revolvers. After a couple of spotting rounds we could frequently hit targets two or three feet around consistently. I've no idea how many boxes of magnum cartridges we burned up that way but it was always entertaining and informative.

Between marriage, numerous moves over a twenty plus year military career and raising a family, both revolvers have since moved on (likely sold when finances were tight). Of course if I had the opportunity to have planned things differently (forseen a few of those emergencies for instance, etc.) I would still have them. Oh well, one of life's smaller regrets I suppose when compared to the real problems in life. ;)

As your trigger lightens up, or you find a good gunsmith (like Teddy Jacobson, at Actions by "T") to smooth it up for you, give it a try at some extended ranges and see what you think, :) assuming of course you haven't already. I know I had a blast with those bigger slugs throwing up the slate and slag on those far off hills.

Enjoy!

Dave

A triple lock made to the tightest tolerances in their custom shop and out of modern steel to handle a couple lifetimes of shooting... oh yeah.

The sad thing is that I know the second sentence of your post is true also. I fear I'll never get to buy a new S&W revolver again.

Of S/W Marketing....

The applications of this little J-Frame would be world wide. BUG for military, operators, police, etc. Ammo interchangeability with a whole lotta service sized auto-pistols makes this an instant winner this time.

Oh, and no freaking lock. Call it an "M&P" and can the lock. Make "marketing" packages with the M&P auto pistol and the M&P AirWeight 940 in a combo box. I'd work for just a commission on all these sales.
