View Full Version : Likes&Dislikes 21SF
This is the first 45 that I have ever owned, after shooting Glocks for about 12 years.
Purchased 21SF L/E and was pleased that it was the Glock Rail model, as the 21SF that they had in the shop, would not fit our newly purchased holsters.
On the whole we loved shooting this "big hitter"
The grip felt bigger that the 9mm's that we are used too, but was still very manageable.
What I loved, was shooting quickly from the holster, one, two, or three rounds, then reholstering and repeating.
The recoil didn't feel any different to the nine mm's, but somehow better :)
The dislike was when I came to shoot slow fire at 50 feet, about 10 rounds at a time.
My finger hurt from the trigger, and it felt like one of those nightmares where you can't get the gun to fire, no matter how hard you squeeze the trigger.
The box said that it was a 5lb trigger, I don't see how this was possible. It felt like 10 lb!
I was having to milk (squeezing my whole hand) to get the shot to release!
I have not detail stripped it yet, or even cleaned and lubed it.

Time to clean and lube it - use a needle applicator to get small amounts of lube into the working internal parts. When I brought my G21SF home, that was the first thing I did. Then, when I shot it for the first time, the trigger felt like all my other Glocks, which is either good or OK or bad, depending on your personal preference. But the 21 was no worse.
If yours still feels as bad as you've described it after you've lubed it, I'd have someone who knows what they're doing take a look at it. In my experience, all stock Glock triggers feel pretty much the same out of the box - kinda gritty, but with a steady pull, fairly clean break and short reset.
Thanks.
I wanted the copper paste to do it's job before I cleaned it.
I must admit that most of my "Glocking" was done with the 3 1/2lb connector, so it would seem heavier.
But the 19, that I carry (5 1/2 connector) is much, much lighter.
The reset on the 21 seemed normal, but the trigger pull, when perfomed slowly, was unbelievably slow and hard, more like a double action revolver

Try this:

Easy, cheap, amazing results. Use a Dremel and it's even easier.
Likes: The Amb. Mag Rel.
Dislikes: The rail setup and the price.
IMHO they should have made it a long slide, extended slide release with better sights.

Likes: It's a G21, new rail
Dislikes: Can't tell the difference between SF and standard 21, ambi safety
I dislike the fact I don't get to shoot it often enough......other than that, I LIKE it!
I changed the Glock sights for Sevigny comps. and put in a minus connector, a lot better, but it still feels a little rough.
My first target was a little right, adjusted a tad to left, this is the second (and last) target. 50 feet, (support hand on bench) 10 rounds of Blazer.
This gun absolutley rocks!
I held both the 21 and 21sf today.. and for me there was a reasonable difference. I'm not a fan of the ambi though.

The left side mag release seems harder to release the mag than my G22 with a mag in it. With it full at 13 rounds it's a hard hard press to muscle the release. Anyone else have this issue?

Ditto on these, I did them right away You should also do the trigger job listed in Harlequin's post. It changed my life. (Well, not really, but it does make a difference that even my 11 year old son could tell.)
Likes: the great big holes it leaves in things that I shoot.
Dislikes: it's still a really big gun (bigger than my G17 any way), and the grip tape that I put on the grips sometimes rubs my skin when I carry IWB. (But hey, sometimes that's a "like", depends on my mood.)
Neither like nor dislike: rail, ambi release. I don't plan on using flashlights or bayonets, and the other release fits in between my fingers.
I just bought a 21SF to go with my G30. In the shop, I felt a little bit of difference between the 21 and the 21SF... is there a BIG difference? Nope! But even a small bit of difference from the 21 to the 21SF is a welcome thing.
As for the ambi... the right side of it irritates a tad now and then. Careful, artistic dremel work took all the sharp edges and extension off of the right side button and I'm very happy with it now.
As for my G30, I love it and don't feel any need to ditch it for a 30SF.
Shoot it and shoot it some more it will wear in.
A good cleaning and lubing immediately improved the trigger feel in my new 21SF. The crowning touch, though, was putting in a 3.5# connector which brought the pull weight down to around 5# or so. Not too light, not too heavy... just right.
My finger hurt from the trigger, and it felt like one of those nightmares where you can't get the gun to fire, no matter how hard you squeeze the trigger.
I thought I was the only one that had these dreams. I've bought and sold guns because of these dreams!
In my dreams, my semi-auto won't fire, cranking on the trigger; way too many causes for a semi-auto to jam.
So, I convince myself that a trusty ole wheelgun is the cure; but in my dream, I'll bend that trigger before the thing will go off.
How weird!

To me, with big paws, the grip was no big deal in the SF over the regular 21. Plus I do not like ambi's.
