Was at work today and was talking to guy about ARs and told him I had a bushmaster lower and before I could even get out what kind of upper he shouts in a very snobbish manner "oohh, I would Never mix a gun, All mine have to be the same manufacturer!" So here who else out there has a frankengun? Who wouldn't own one and why?

All of mine are bastard, mixed blood, mutts...
And they work just fine. :)
There's Show Dogs and there's Working Dawgs.
'All Colt' is just a sales pitch around me.

If someone is a collector, a complete weapon will retain higher value unless it has special characteristics (custom build).
For people who are shooters, the name of the weapon is less important than how it shoots, and its reliability.
It's all about what you want it for and how much you want to spend. I got a Doublestar stripped lower today and I don't really care which parts I use for the build as long as they are good quailty and it shoots.
Superior lower, RRA bolt & carrier, no idea what brand upper, Wilson barrel. Works fine for me.:)

My three current AR's are frankenguns. And they are the only 100% reliable AR's I have owned.

Call The Maury Show, they do paternity test all the time, he can find out who the father of your upper is!
Not a purist here. Gun parts are gun parts, most of the time. I cannot see spending extra prices for a complete rifle just to have the same name on the upper and lower. Plus, I wouldn't know how to install a LPK or anything like that. If I was going to save one for a collection, I might buy a complete rifle from a major manufacturer.

No purity here: LMT lower, Sabre Defense midlength upper. Runs like **** through a goose.:beer:

I have to say I am a purist. I guess it's just OCD with me but it has to be the same parts/manufacturer. The name really isn't that important to me. It is the quality and durability.
Unless your friend is a collector his statement is bunk.

I was trying to be a purist. I ordered a Bushmaster lower through my dealer, then I ordered a Bushmaster upper.
The only reason I ordered the Bushmaster upper is that I wanted a government profile barrel, and I couldn't find one in any of the other brands.
So I thought it would be cool to have a Bushmaster upper and lower. The lower stayed on backorder forever, so I ended up getting a Sabre Defence lower complete with RRA parts.
I'm disappointed in the RRA trigger, but otherwise I'm very pleased, and I'm not at all bummed that the rifle isn't all Bushmaster.

Not a purist here, either.
I'm on my first and only AR, and it's a Del-Ton/DPMS frankengun.
Del-Ton upper, and bolt/carrier
Since Del-Ton uses Wilson barrels, the barrel is Wilson
DPMS lower, with Del-Ton parts kit
And an AIM Surplus carry handle.
And I couldn't ask for a better-shooting rifle.
My friend is a bit of a purist. He's got a Colt AR15A3. I told him that mine shoots and functions just as good as his, and he knows that, but he is still convinced that Colt is the best there is.
