Since I am spending all this money for mags I thought I would store them in pouches instead of just dumping them into an ammo can.
What are some good ones? TIA!!
USGI SAW pouches will hold 7 30-rounders perfectly. You can pick up a SAW pouch for about $6.00 on Ebay.

Are you planning on wearing them and using them, or just having them in a pouch?
A basic pistol belt and suspenders LBE rig is about $25 from any surplus site, and 4 mag pouches will hold 12 mags. It's not super-high-speed and tactical, but it will hold enough ammo and give you a way to wear it if needed in an emergency.

Just having them in a pouch.
If you just want a pouch to store them, then a surplus SAW pouch is a good option. If you want a nice modern style tacticool style then Spec-Ops, Blackhawk, SDS and many others make some way cool stuff. From a users standpoint, I am SO GLAD we went away from the LCE style to the modern MOLLE stuff. Not perfect but way better than the stuff I was issued way back in '87

I was looking at getting a couple of these http://www.marsgear.com/product.php?pid=19&xcSID=8f84a6abfe320b99b67e707788afe05b
Also thesportsmansguide.com has two of the old style M16 mag pouches for around $11 a pair

Molle pouches require something with a MOLLE system to mount them on.
As to the old LBE pouches.... they didn't "go away" the Air Force still has a few billion of them. And they work well enough for what he wants.
Oh I know they didn't go away, as they still appear every now and then. You see everything in the Guard.
