View Full Version : A Noveske barrel....
.... is a beautiful thing....
http://www.listmequick.com/AR15/noveske.jpg
My barrel arrived today. This is a new thing for me, assembling my first AR. My husband has been picking up bits and pieces for me over the last few weeks and HOPEFULLY I'll have a finished rifle within the next week. The suspense is K-I-L-L-I-N-G me.
So far it's shaping up like this:
Lower:
Spikes 9/11 Lower
Stag LPK
RR NM 2-stage trigger
Magpul Commercial CTR Stock - OD
Magpul MIAD Grip - OD
A bit of my skin and blood upon assembly...... It's MINE now dammit.
Upper:
Noveske 16.1 Recon Medium Contour Barrel
Troy Midievil Muzzle Break
LaRue Gas Block
LaRue Stealth Upper
LaRue 11" Handguard
Either Magpul Rails or Ladders
CMT BC Group
Sights:
EoTech 512 on a LaRue LT-110
Extras:
Magpul PMAGS
Viking Tactics/LaRue Padded Sling
Who needs diamonds and roses on Mother's Day (or Anniversaries for that matter.......)? Give me a warm rifle or pistol and I'm a happy, happy girl.
Picking it up from LaRue tomorrow (there for the upper assembly), then we'll worry about photos of the finished product and range reports.

Looks like you did your research, great parts make a great rifle
That should be one impressive carbine. I lust.
That is an excellent build list. You did a great job at researching your components.
Congrats!
Do you have any sisters... I don't know what I'd do if I found a woman who is actually into guns/outdoors as much as I am
Hope your husband realizes how lucky he is to find someone into this hobby:supergrin:
Sound like a great build. You will love that barrel.
Don't you just love their barrels? There is something about their stainless barrel that just needs to be touched. I don't get the same feeling about a regular steel barrel.
Guys,
You have -no- idea. LOL
This rifle is the ...well.... rather not set off the language filters but you get the idea.
There've been a few changes but nothing too major (it'll have a Noveske gas block and a RR Enhanced BC Group instead of what was originally listed....). Once I get the last of the parts in hand (hopefully Friday), I can get finished photos up. For the moment though, here she is in part (bit blurry...sorry, I was rushing, wanted quick pics to show a coworker... who now wants us to build one for him as well):

And RWBlue, DEFINITELY, Noveske's barrels are works of art... very simple, but just...the bomb. When we (or rather, hubby) was/were researching (and he was showing me pictures of this, that and the other...), he came across a build that had a Noveske barrel and I stopped him and told him "That's it. Right there. That's the barrel".
Infiholic, yep, I do. But she's anti through and through. Doesn't understand my obsession, wouldn't go shooting with us when we were in Cali either.
Austin Gun Show's this weekend, I'm hoping to get a bit of range time in with this rifle before I head there to 'shop'.
:hearts: And yanno, my husband may be a lucky, lucky man, but I'm awfully lucky to have a spouse who -honestly- built this one for me, and not as an excuse to add another rifle to the household, yanno?

ETA: Just realized, looking at the pics, that the MIAD isn't on yet (in transit as well..). Hubby found his extra Hogue grip and installed that instead of the generic one that came with the LPK.
A few changes.
I'll try to get photos posted sometime this weekend (if it ever stops raining and I get sunlight at the right time of day.
I'm in love. :hearts:

I got my Noveske SPR barrel this week as well (after 3 months of waiting - well worth the wait). It is almost shame to cover them up with a handguard. The fit and finish is superb. Here is mine:

That is very similar to my own build I'm doing this exact week...just received all my parts in:
-Noveske stainless 16" barrel
-LaRue billet upper
-Sun Devil billet lower
-LaRue 9" quad rail
-LaRue gas block
-Young Mfg. N.M. Chrome plated carrier
-LMT bolt
-Magpul CTR stock
-Vortec flash hider
-RRA NM trigger
-RRA LPK
Just curious, I'm in College Station...Is this the "Kat" that owns Champions Firearms?
Anyways, I also heard there is a gun show at Brown Convention Center in Houston this weekend, true?

SWEET!
No sir, not the same Kat (I wish...LOL). Haven't heard if there is or isn't a show in Houston. Any idea on who's sponsoring? It's not SAXET, since they do not have a Houston show listed.
Out of curiosity... a 9" handguard? I opted for an 11" to keep the (HOT!) gaslock under cover so that I don't accidentally make contact with it. Are you exposing your gasblock on purpose? I'd like to see pictures when you're done.
Just realized that the foregrip is still on the rifle in those pics, not sure if I'm liking it (I tend to not use it even when it's mounted), but my husband is still tweaking the rifle as he thinks of other things to annoy me with.

Show is High-Caliber http://www.highcalibergunshow.com/Schedule.htm
Yea, I feel since I already have the extended length of a mid-length forearm, what remainder of the barrel that sticks out from a 9" LaRue quad rail has a more complete look from my own personal taste. Both are leaps and bounds better than anything AR factory built in production rifles!
Check out this picture thread on custom built AR's...

I also live close by LaRue, how did you go about having them put all your build together for you? If it doesn't cost too much and since I have all LaRue parts, I'd like to have them assymble my AR too. Makes it worth a WHOLE alot more when its time to sell it!

I actually didn't have LaRue assemble it. I did the lower (damn thing has my DNA on it now) and husband did the upper. Location says Houston for you. I'm a heck of a lot closer to LaRue than you are if that's the case. I DID go and pick up various parts from them over the course of a few weeks, (only the LaRue branded items, everything else was acquired here and there). We were going to have LaRue assemble it, but a few things came up and we came back around full-circle and finished the build ourselves. She's performed flawlessly for me, I just wish it would stop raining so I can get to the range (I'm NOT going out in a lightning storm. Torrential downpours don't worry me, it's the bolts from the sky while I'm standing out there that bother me).
I'm sending you a PM.
