View Full Version : G-21 Barrel spots
Ive had my G-21 for about 1 month now, and have probably put aroud 600 round through it. The first couple of times cleaning it, it came out spotless. This last time after cleaning, I inspected the bore a noticed these spots. I figured it was copper fouling so i went through my routine again, checked it again, same thing. Anyway I went through the regimine about 3 times, and the spots are stil there. It kind of looks like pitting, but unfortunately i don't have a bore scope, so I really cant tell. Anybody have any thoughts on this. I use Butch's Bore Shine, bronze brushes, and a jag, and only shoot jacketed bullets.
It is most likely excess black phosphate that is being worn off. It should clear up after a few hundred more rounds.

This pitting happens mostly when the Tenifer-Process isn´t perfect.
It appears sooner or later on about 60% of Glock Guns out there.
It doesn´t have any effect on the accuracy (or the Lifetime) of your gun. You can send your Barrel back to Glock and they will send you back a new one, but it´s no guarantee, that the same happens not to the new barrel.
DannyR,
Thanks. Any idea what causes that?

That is what I figured. It definitely doesnt look like any kind of fouling. As long as it wont affect accuracy, I can live with it.

I have seen it the 1st. time 6 month ago in my barrel.
Had a call with Glock-Austria and they told me the facts, i told you.
They also said, i don´t have to worry about it (because it´s only on the surface), but if i want, they change the barrel.
My 17 is born 1986 and has fired over 70.000 rounds... and is still working perfect.
Don´t worry about it.
My G21 has the same "pits" but I could care less as long as it shoots straight.
If I ever wear out my barrel (never will) I might go with a Bar-Sto.

I have the same thing on my G21. I've had it since August 2001 and have put 900 or so rounds through it. I've cleaned it with CLP, Hoppes, or MPro7 after every shooting session. Used only factory new ammo, FMJ. By the looks of it, it looks like paint chipping off inside the barrel. It really disturbed me until reading the numerous posts on this "pitting" issue. Now I have the warm fuzzies!!! LOL!!! As long is it doesn't affect the barrel, it's fine with me. Since this is my home defense piece, I'm more concerned with reliabilty and safety than accuracy. Thanks for the info!

jpsw44,
Did the pits in your barrel ever clear up by putting more rds. thru it?

Only my G26 doesn't haver those pits. My 17 21 and my fathers 17 and 23 all have the pits. We had talked to Glock and found out it was normal. Its just letting you know, the gun is broken in.;e

No... but if your gun has shot 100 000 rds. the pits are the smaller problem;f
