View Full Version : Want an AR!

I want an AR so bad I can taste it! I bought a MINI 14 thinking it would purge the thirst but there really is no substitute. I will probably wind up building my first one. I am more than fairly proficient with the M-16 and can still tear one down and re-assemble with my eyes closed and reciting the general orders (the other jarheads on here know what I'm talking about). I just want to know if I am going in the right direction here.
I found the Bushmaster has a stripped lower for $195 and Del-Ton has the rest for $465 +or- some goodies that aren't that big of a deal.
I have seen some gripes regarding Del-Ton and some on Bushies as well. What is the general consensus and am I going the right way with all this? Any constuctive input is appreciated. :help:
You can find lowers cheaper than that if you shop around a bit.
Rock River Arms (a much better product than Bushmaster in my opinion) is $155 plus shipping to your FFL.
RRA Stripped Lower (http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR0114RRA&storeid=1&image=lwrrcvr.gif&CFID=35205207&CFTOKEN=27853049)
A complete lower half from Ameetec Arms (M4 style) is $200 this month.
Ameetec Complete Lower (http://www.ameetecarms.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11)
I've seen lowers as low as $110 plus shipping but they're probably a little too cheap.
Aim Surplus has stipped lowers for under $100

I know I need to get with an FFL to order my lower, but do I have to do the same thing when I order the rest of the rifle?

No, the lower is legally the firearm the rest are just parts.

Ok, so maybe a complete lower is the way to go. And still order the Del-Ton kit that way I have a few spare parts barring any unforseen circumstances. Thanks for the advice XNYTRUCKIE it will definately have an EGA on the side of it once I sell all this to the wife as being necessary!

I you order a complete lower, just order a complete Stag upper to complete it.
Stag is very good quality for the money.

Yeah, no matter what you get there will be someone to tell you you should have gotten this or that. The majority of lower recievers are all made by the same people anyways, just vary in the finish and machining. But any of them...Bushmaster, STAG, RRA, DPMS, etc. will do just fine. My first build was a Bushmaster/LMT.

I've decided to go with a lower receiver from spikestactical. Currently trying to find an FFL in the area that I trust. I'm not sure about any of ya'll but for me its like buying a car and I won't do business with someone I don't trust.
On a side note: I guess no one has any discrepancies with me building a mut... That's what really draws me to this weapon is the versatility and the availibility of the parts.
I love my MINI 14, but it just doesn't scratch the itch. I haven't even bought my AR yet and I'm already hooked! :2gun:
