View Full Version : Ar15
I'm having a difficult time deciding which AR15 to purchase. I narrowed my choices down to the following: Colt, RRA, Stag, DPMS and Bushmaster. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Prices seem to be close enough to not be an issue. New Jersey rules apply.

1Colt = 1.2RRA = 1.3Bushmaster = 1.3Stag = 1.6DPMS
Unless accuracy is important to you, in which case:
1Colt = 1Bushmaster = 1.2 Stag = 1.3 Rock River = 1.8DPMS
If it were me I would get a stripped lower and a Stag rifle kit from Pete at legal transfers. For under $750 you have a top notch AR plus you learn how to put one together. I have one on the way right now

Bushmaster.
:thumbsup:
With the widespread advent of CNC machining, there really isnt much)if any) difference in stripped lower or upper receivers. Its really more about the anodizing imo.
I agree with Build Your Own or find the best deal on the configuration that you want.

What do you want the rifle to do?
There are differences between them. They may or may not matter.
Get either a Colt or LMT. Do it right the first time. You will never regret it.

IMO I`d go with the Rock River, before I purchased my RR I`d never even heard of it, did so much reading on it & it was always a favorite of the shooters.

I just got a Stag and love it. After a field strip cleaning and reassembly shot 200 rounds to break her in. I'm ordering another in the next few weeks.

Absolutely correct.

If I lived back in NJ, I would go with a 20" AWB compliant rifle. Fake stock carbines are fine I guess, but unless you really need a couple inches of shorter barrel, the 20" rifle would be my choice.
This was one of my personal builds during the federal AWB.

I baught a DPMS AP4. At first I was dissapointed with reliability. (NOTE) I did follow the mfg. advice on "breaking in" the new barrel. Accuracy,for mine anyway is 2.5" at 100 meters, yes thats right,my shooting range was made by Italians who used meters instead of yards and thats the way it is to this day.Anyhow, the d&h mags that came w/ the rifle had feeding problems. I baught a Beta-c mag 100 rounder and some Orlites and have'nt had any issues since then. Now don't get me wrong I've heard both good and bad things about the Orlites but I've only got about 1000 rds. through mine and I don't plan on seeing combat again anytime soon, so there good enough for me. on the other hand, my DPMS is a button rifled,16 barrel carbine and does not feature a magnetic partical tested barrel. If I can afford to burn out this barrel then I would have started out with a different weapon, Namely a Colt. My colt never let me down in the service. what I wanted as a civilian was a shooter. I don't bump fire my rifle but if I did I could order a new upper and a heavy buffer. It would be around four-hundred bucks. I've already spent about 1000 bucks on ammo since january. Well, I guess my point is I am satisfied with my DPMS AP4 and I also like the president of the company, Randy E. Luth. He rightly gives preference to military veterans. This earns DPMS my vote because the people you want building your gun are the ones that have actually used it in combat. Dave

It'd be hard to go wrong with Stag or LMT...
What do you want it for? It makes a difference.
Are you looking for a standard plinker? Target, varmeter, SHTF rifle, M4 clone, M16-a1 clone, M16-a2 clone, SPR clone, collector?
Colt is the most money
DPMS is the cheapest (not the most cost effective)
Grant can build you one to your spec.
I have taken up building my own, because well, I am cheap but I like quality and tinkering.
