Well, finally took my Yugo M70 with a touch o' the cant out to a 100 yard range the other day. I had to adjust the front sight all the way left to get it zeroed. The sight picture sucked, and drove me crazy.
So, I've knocked the pins out of the front sight base. Broke my pin punch in the process and needed to drill a shallow hole bigger than the pin on one side. Kinda pissed at this point. I put a towel over the base while holding the rifle with the other hand, beat the crap out of the middle of the sight base with a big hammer. It doesn't want to seem to move.
Question 1: What's the best way to get this loose? I don't have a vise anymore and really don't want to buy one. Is there some secret to busting this thing loose? Would heat help?
Question 2: The instructions I found advise to drill out the existing holes to the larger size of 1/8" after you get the base straightened, and then to replace the pins with 1/8 steel rod. Drilling these larger holes will make the barrel thinner than it is now. Will this matter or are the pressures so light at the end of the barrel where these pins are that it will be OK?
