View Full Version : Whats did I do wrong? AR question...
I have an Olympic Arms Plinker. I had an A2 style stock on it. Installed a CAR2 stock on it. Pulled the charging handle back, let it go forward. When I did, the buffer retainer and spring 'hopped' up threw the opening in the bottom of the Bolt Carrier and stoped the bolt from continuing forward. I put the A2 stock back on it and this is still happening. I don't know what I did. Hopfully somethign simple.
Thanks to anyone who might be able to diagnose me with my vague discription.
If you need more info let me know and I might be able to explain a little better.
It sounds like you don't have your buffer tube installed correctly. It needs to be screwed in enough that it retains the buffer retainer. Screw it in until it just gets to the hole for the retainer, install the spring and retainer, depress it, and then screw the buffer tube in until it captures it. The buffer tube for the A-2 stock should bottom out at the right legnth, but the CAR tube you have to stop where it belongs, and then it locks in with the locking ring.

I think Critter nailed it.
The buffer tube overlaps the buffer retainer slightly to keep it from shooting out.

Critter's on the mark, today!!!
Don't tighten the tube too much, or you'll snap the buffer retaining nub off, and then it won't work, period, plus, the upper receiver won't close properly....
