View Full Version : Coming back to the 23
Ya know, when I first handled a G23, I just found it didn't fit like a 22 did. I dunno, maybe it's a balance thing. However, I just picked up a lightly customized 23 and frankly, I like it.
Nice intermediate size for carry, light enough, sits well on the belt, fun to shoot. I had to smack myself and ask, "what took so long?"
Morris... I think the 19 and the 23 are the sweetest spots in the entire Glock line up... not too big, not too small, good capacity, good potency, easy to carry, comfortable to shoot... they are SWEET!
Well, here's an update. I love my 19 so much (and forty caliber too) that I couldn't resist the lure of the 23, so today, one came home with me... along with two extra mags - 15 rnd cap. I'm so looking forward to shooting this fine machine tonight!
Update... dropped a LWD 40 barrel, smooth trigger, & Ghost Rocket 3.5# connector, and Wolff XP mag springs (had a couple of stovepipes - slide over-ride jams, most likely from weak mag springs) into my G23. Love the gun!
Did you notice any accuracy improvements over the previous setup?
Morris... nope... I didn't test for any type of an accuracy comparison. I'm sure the stock Glock barrel would have been just fine for me accuracy wise... what it didn't do is give me full case head support and the somewhat tighter chamber to keep my brass from swelling up any more than necessary... I shoot 95% reloads, so preserving brass and having full case head support is very important to me.... THAT's why I bought the Lone Wolf .40 barrel... the $95 was cheap insurance for minimizing .40 cal. kaboom potential and keeps my brass lasting a lot longer. Stone reliable feeding with the LWD barrel so far. (The 2 stove pipe jams were with stock set-up - not barrel related.)
I've come back to the 23 myself. I had a GenII I bought back in the early nineties. Like all dumb gun newbies, I traded it:sad:
After spending years with a 35 and 27, I just grabbed a 23. It seems so perfect sized, and accurate too! I shoot it as well as I do my 35.

I knew I should not have come to this .40 CAL site !!!
I started with the Glock 22 then bought a 27 for carry and have been
itching to buy a "BRAND NEW" G23 for months...Now I read your post
Mr. Morris...Time to dust off the Discover Card. I knew this day
would come ! Thanks Morris

Congrats on your 23!
The 23 is my favorite GLOCK! It's the perfect combination of size, capacity and firepower.
I bought a GLOCK factory 32 barrel and shoot 357 in my 23 too. Great round; the best 9mm out there. Gotta love that speed!!
In addition to the 23, I have a 19 for low cost practice and for IDPA. Like the 23, a great handling pistol!

I just got another G-23, after selling one years ago. I'm going to try it as my main CCW/HD pistol, come jacket weather. I'm planning on installing a smooth trigger, 8lbs trigger spring, and perhaps a X/S big dot front sight with a Glock steel rear sight.

I sold my 23 and bought a 40 last year. The 30 was all they say it is in acuracy. But it hurt my wrist and forearm shooting it. Sold it got another 23 and this one seems to be more accurate than my first one. Then I got the 357 barrel really nice and at least with American Eagle Ammo recoil is felt less than the 40.
MichaelG... try the 180 gr. loads in forty... they're as effective and deadly as the light-weight fodder and more comfortable to shoot. Likely to have a little better penetration as well. 180 gr. is all I shoot in forty and it's a pleasure to shoot.
