any idea what TRA means? tried looking it up, came up zero info on it. Is this local?

Whats the safest way to get rid of this?

To dispose of I would call your local cops and turn it over to the bomb disposal unit and let them worry about it. I looked in the WWII headstamp guide I have no listing my best guess would be made by subcontactor during WWI or 2. Where did you dig it??

Cool if it's from WWI or WWII:shocked:

I found it at a sunken garden where I do my other hobby which is metal detecting:supergrin: it was buried less than 4 inches.

BTW paano nyo nalaman na it was from WW? Iba na ba design from the modern ones?

Salamat!

Like magicmanmb, I came up zip on the headstamp "TRA".
For a minute I thought I had it, but Quebecois "Dominion" used the
"TR" (Trois Rivieres) headstamp.

It's tempting to think it's WWI vintage, only because headstamps
(military and otherwise) are poorly documented for the era. It seems
a lot of small third-parties got into the cartridge biz during that
period.

The mild degree of corrosion (we're talking Philippine tropical
clime, with typically-acidic soil) however may suggest something
more recent. Virtually all loose WW2 cartridges I've
unearthed, usually .30-06, were in far worse shape than that.
I've found some in good shape, but not loose: they were in tins.

I'll keep looking for a headstamp match :)

I think TRA stands for Training Ammo.

These bullets were manufactured by Armscor under contract with the AFP and subsequently issued to the AFP Training Command in the mid up to late 80's.

When i was a kid in 1972 i remember guys who were digging to construct a hollowblock- made fence near our house found an iron cannonball dating to the spanish era. It was dugged out from around 5 feet underground. We milled around staring in awe as it was still in VG condition . It looks similar to one used in bowling, huge and heavy. They turned it over to the Phil Constabulary, the guys of Martial Law. I hope it went to some kind of museum.
Then another find too was a rusted .50 cal round in our backyard where we stock firewoods, that too was turnover to PC HQ. That would have been a nice item for memorabilia sake.
