500 Breacher.

Saw one at the FFL today and recalled the issues I had with getting through a door last week on a warrant. Spoke tacticool but why I feel the need to possess one, I dunno. Won't be able to use it on patrol . . . unless . . .

If your like me, sometimes you just want a firearm just to have it. It is kind of cool after all, but not cool enough to pay what they want for it.
I have and will buy firearms just to have it. Either because I find them interesting or cool or because they have some history associated with them.
I believe, and I could be wrong on this, that most "real" breeching shotguns used by PDs and military have a much shorter barrel because they are not intended for anything other than breeching. I think Mossberg is marketing that to the tacticool crowd so they can feel special too. I've never used a breeching SG so i could be wrong though. My local gunshop has one as well. I saw someone fondeling it the other day, even then I wondered WTF he wanted that for. If I was looking for a breeching SG I would be looking at something like the Serbu Super Shorty
True, most breachers I have used and fondeled have been in the 12-14 inch range. Dunno why, just was. I have a query into Mossberg so I'll see what they say.

the only thing cool about it is that sick looking muzzle attachment. I think having a breaching gun would be awesome and potentially handy in a its-the-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it-zombie-situation. having a super shorty with that break would be freaking awesome.
They now make that barrel for 870's if you have a remington and want to update it.
or the vang comp breecher extended tube would be a good look/way to go.
both availible here----- And other places im sure.

I think its because they are not intended as fighting weopons. They are normally there simply for breeching and therefor need to be as small and unabtrusive as possible. If you already have two weopn systems for fighting and need a 3rd simply to breec doors you would want it as small and lite weight as possible. You may very well be tripping over that 18"barrel or have it banging into your shins.
Its cool looking but I think that the 18" barrel model is impracticle for its intended purpose. An AOW would serve the purpose better.
That's a solid point sarge, especially when it's hanging with the other gear. I looked at it as a possible fill in due to some of the paperwork issues I would have to do in order to get a breacher or two for the PD use.
Oh, Mossberg now refers to it as the "tactical cruiser."
I'll keep looking but I'd still T&E one just to see.
