Ok, I searched and found REAMS of info, but... I want to address the specific gun (G36). I have a new (used) one that I plan on carrying alot when I get to Florida. Now, the stock Glock sights are ok, and easy to acquire in a hurry, but... I have never left stock sights on any of my guns.
I have no experience with the fiber optic sights like Tru-Glo and the likes. I love Novak melts, for carry... but there are tons of sights out there.
I would love to hear from actual G36 owners, that have changed sights. What are you using, pros and cons, how do they carry, how are they at lower light levels? Ease of installation? Point of Aim issues after installing? Etc... you get my drift.
I want something durable, that wont break, and that I can acquire in a hurry after presenting from a concealed carry.
The G36 is not a gun that I will compete with. It is a defensive gun for me, that will see daily carry once I leave Kalifornia.
I am concerned about the slide thickness, and that that the sight maybe different than other Glock specific sights.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Darren
I installed a set of yellow/green meprolights which shot POA PERFECTLY. but, the front sight nut MUST be filed down after installation to clear the barrel or it WILL NOT go into battery. This is because meprolight does not make a specific sight for the G36 and the barrel/slide clearance is a little tighter than on other glocks.

That's what I figured... looks like there would be clearance issues. I have Meps on my G22 and they are wonderful.
Has anyone used the Heinie straight eights? I have never used these sights, but... holding a weapon they were installed on, I could not BELIEVE how fast they were to acquire..
I have 36-specific Trijicons. I have no comparative experience but I am happy with them. They are durable and do the job.
I have 36-specific Trijicons as well, yellow rear with a green front. I love 'em

I have truglos on mine. for a Defense gunitseems fine. Very easy install. FWIW if I had to do it again Id buy heinies. truglo was one third the cost however and metal.
My G36 has Trijicons as well, I'm happy with them.
I recently picked up a set of XS Big Dot sights from another GT member for my G36. After 20 years of 3 dot Trijicons, I finally caved in. I had been reluctant because of the v-cut rear sight. Big Dot's have now become my favorite. Much faster target aquisition and just as accurate. Forget what you hear about Big Dots being limited to 15 yards. 25 yard shots are easy. There is a video out there showing hits out to 100 yards using a G19 and big Dots. Also, the tritium inserts on Big Dots are made by Trijicon.

I hear ya... I like what I have READ on the Big Dot sights, and functionally, I can see that they work well. However, I have not seen any in person, much less shot with them. I do like the concept of the Straight 8 sight, but again, have never used them. Keep the advise coming gang... I wanna know what people are using, if they work, pros and cons... etc.
Thanks,
Darren

Good thread. I was just wondering the same thing for my G36. Try as I might, I can not get used to the standard Glock sights. I replaced my G17 stock sights with Tru-Glo TFO's and absolutely love them. I am worried about the custom fitting required on the G36, as I use it as my CCW piece and the last thing I want is a misfitted front sight causing a malfunction.

I'd like to get the Tru-Glo TFO for my G36. Are these sights universal or model-specific? If specific, which one would I get for the G36 and who does the custom fitting (e.g. the buyer, the seller, or the installer)?
The info would be greatly appreciated.
Thx
