View Full Version : New Gun Owner Question
I purchased a new G23 about one month ago, then added a TLR-2 about 2 weeks ago.
So far, i have fired approx 400 rounds through the gun.
On 6/1 i went to the range and finally dialed in the laser and got about a four inch spread on the first and second red lines.( i dont know what distance they are)
On 6/3 i went back to the range and all my rounds were to the left of the bulls eye with about 6-8 inch spread.
Is it common to get worse instead of better?
Thanks for the feedback

On the second trip are you talking about using the laser or your sights and getting a different POI?
I was only using the laser.

um try using the sights also and see if the POI and POA are the same.

the laser only gives you an AREA where the POI should be, and on rail mounted lasers, you have to give a 3" POA-POI difference
and it can also atrribute to trigger control ... a common problem for new Glock shooters
but ive llearned to accept that my Glock is not as accurate as my 1911, but simply will STILL be my HD weapon since after 4000rds i only had 1ftf ... that is just simply amazinglr reliable, hands down
enjoy your glock/laser combo and some pics are in order here
POI - Point of Impact ?
POA - Point of ???

that is why i chose to use the LaserMax internal laser ... it has a closer POA-POI than a rail mounted laser and almost impossible to throw off alignment

+1 Pony up the "big bucks" for a good laser and use a separate light.

iang,
I'll have to experiment with my TLR-2 and see if taking it off and putting it back on changes the POI. I would think if it's mounted tight it shouldn't change much if at all!
I'll report back! ;)
where is the switch for the lasermax guide rod?

You replace the glock slide lock with the lasermax slide lock, it is engaged by pushing it in from either side.
Based on research from this forum, the TLR-2 was the preferred laser.
The lasermax seemed to have battery issues and was a pulse laser, which i'm not too impressed with!

the battery issue? i have not run into any battery issues, but bought a spare set with my LaserMax "just in case"
as far as the pulse laser, its prolly an aquired taste cus some of my friends like it and some dont, personally im so used to it, it doesnt even seem like its pusling to me anymore...my .02
the only con i see with the lasermax is that i dont think you can change the guide rod spring rates
but at the end its your gun and do what you must ... stay safe

If this site's search function worked adequately, you'd find an extensive history of bantering on lasers--usually between Crimson Trace and LaserMax. The "attack" is usually on the latter.
LaserMax, like all products, has its defects and exchanges. The problem with a lot of the complaints and criticisms opined on the LaserMax, is that they are third party hearsay, unqualified rants (guy buys a LM on eBay and can't even confirm it's the right model for the right gun), installation error (brain required!), or unfounded opinion (I just don't see how it can be reliable!).
There has also been some genuine product failures, which the OEM will pounce on, if the purchase is legit.
The pulsing beam is easier to pick up with peripheral vision, or against a complex background. It also greatly increases battery life.
We have two LaserMax units and are very pleased with them both! We did exchange one of the two, as the NIB LM for Judy's G19 was defective right out of the box. The exchange was hassle-free. The replacement has been flawless. Both units are on OEM batteries from 11/05 and 02/06 purchases. Both have thousands of rounds on them.
Both our LM units are plenty bright for their intended purpose, and certainly accurate enough (beam and bullet run 1/4" of one another to the back of the range).
I'm not saying LaserMax is the only good choice. I am saying it is a viable product and among the more sophisticated laser designators offered.
It is a spendy little sucker though!

If your fixed sight are accurate you should be able to dial the TLR2 in by comparing the two, at the range you want. At short distances you will notice the TLR2 POI will move compared to the fixed sight because the laser is farther away from the bore. This is easy to see at home (with a empty gun).
