View Full Version : TLR-1 light on a Glock....does it mess up the frame?

Hello all out there in Glock Talk land. I am interested in getting the TLR-1 but am concerned with the way it connects to the receiver. It doesn't seem to "snap" on like a Glock light. Instead it looks like it "screws" on. Does this leave marks on the receiver? Cany anone shed any light on this? (No pun intended).
Gary Newport, another GT member with lots of experience in most things Glock, says it does indeed mark up the frame.
Pity--an otherwise nice light for the money.

I have mounted and dismounted my TLR-2 on my G23 daily and have had no issues with marking up the rail.
I have one. The way it attaches I think it would mark it less than one that snaps on, if you are halfassed careful when you attach the light.
The screw part just tightens or loosens it, it's not meant to slide.
That said, it's nearly as bright as my new LED Stinger. Very nice light.

I just bought one for my G22. I cannot see how it would in any way screw up or mark your frame. It clips on, then you use the screws to tighten it up, but you control how tight, I just finger tighten it, there is no need to crank that sucker on with a screwdriver or anything.
if I remember correctly, when I bought mine I had the choice of snap in or screw. I chose the screw and never had a problem with it. It just makes it tighter and does not mark the gun in any way. If you are going to get a holster that also fits the light my guess is that you would want tighter.

TLR-1 is an awesome light. It does NOT scratch up the frame! The screw you see just tightens the grip the light has on the gun. I take mine off an on just about every night and no scratches anywhere.
I've had a TLR-1 for a few months and despite countless mounting and unmounting of the light I have no marks. I like it a little better than other lights in the way it screws on rather than slides on.

Good to know. I just ordered a TLR-1 for my 21SF on Monday. I should have it tomorrow. I'm pretty stoked about it. I just have to wait 2-3 weeks for my Safariland holster for it. :cop: :kilt:

I use one on my G22 and I just checked. No marks that I can see.

Minor abrasions on the receiver. Varying by fit and amount of tension required for secure fit. Applicable to all rails I've used them on.
Such cosmetic things are important to some, irrelovent to others.

I've found that, if one loosens the "screw" on the TLR-1 all the way and then mounts the light from beneath, directly into the cross-slot in the frame, denting the rail is less likely. What I was doing before was sliding the light onto the frame rail from the front, which is how I mounted the M-3 snap-on light. I think this contributed to the dents in the rail.
Great. Now I have to go buy one. Bastards.

I mount mine loosened as much as needed, no marks so far, as I have been careful putting it in place!

Same here, no marks, and I've put it on and taken it off bunches of times, on both 19 and 21. I could see where you could leave marks, by tightning the screw too tight, to where it bites into the recever.

I got mine off of eBay for $89.00 new, with free shipping. There are deals there, you just have to be semi-selective!
