On this: AK M4 Telescoping Stock (http://akpartskits.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=24&osCsid=1565914bc33d00a2f066866319f88bb4)
I am planning on replacing the stock on my Romanian SAR1, and came across this reasonably priced, seemingly well constructed stock.
Any advice, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I have played with them in the gun shop and they seem stable enough. Very comfortable IMO. They also look good if you have the front plastic setup.

No experience with that stock but the phrase "polymer tang for mounting to standard AK" causes me to wonder about the durability of the tang.
When I changed the stock on my SAR-1, I went with the Romanian side folder from http://dpharms.com/romanian-ak-47-folding-stock-p-87.html?osCsid=15afff5278b978b41b642a32d001f59d.

I don't seen an advantage to it. Call me old-school, but I don't like AR'ing my AK.
the advantage of a folding-stock on an AK is that it goes to a very small package. The AR stock just shortens it a bit. The reason the AR has an AR stock is b/c of where the recoil-spring is located. I'd love to have an AR platform where the recoil spring is elsewhere in the rifle so that I could have a full-folding stock. THAT would be cool!
And considering the stock and tube run about $35-50 by themselves, I wonder how much quality is in the whole AK conversion section.

I understand your point, but having both a carbine AR and an AK with a sidefolder, the adjustable stock is pretty nice for those of us who like to run it "one click out" and "nose to the charging handle". It makes the gun shorter, but shoulderable and makes it great for close in work. It also puts my head closer to my Aimpoint which I already try to run as far back as possible but allow room to flip up my rear BUIS. That allows my right eye to look right through the Aimpoint and my left to see around the body of the sight superimposing what I see with both eyes making it look like I just have a dot floating in front of me and making the body of the optic disappear.
My AK on the other hand feels huge in comparison. It feels heavier, even though it isn't because my arms are extended more(it is just a stamped AK vs. a extended quad-railed AR with optics and such, so the extras on the AR bring it up to the weight of the AK. I weighed them BTW).
In the end I see the advantage of both. From a shooting aspect, I prefer the adjustable as shooting a rifle with a folded stock is pretty useless at all but super duper close range. But the folder does allow it to fit in tiny places and well...... just looks cool.

Thanks for all the input.
gunnut: I do already have a CAA grip and fore-end installed (black), so I feel I need a black stock to finish it off.
Although, there are many more, much nicer stocks out there, I have a tight budget to stay within.
Thus narrowing it down to this M4 stock, which seems better built than the Tapco stuff, and the Romanian folder dgglockster suggested.
Many good points brought up in this thread. Thanks.
How comfortable are the side-folding stocks to shoot (both ways)?
Thanks again.

It's an interesting combination -- aluminum tube and plastic block.
I just put a 6-position CAA stock on an ACE sidefolding mechanism on my Saiga conversion project. It got pretty pricey, but it's a very solid installation. By comparison, the TAPCO adjustible on my Lancaster AK feels like a toy. (Pics on my website, here: http://home.comcast.net/~navy87guy/home/saiga.html)
It would cost you about $50 (and some minor surgery)to convert it to a steel ACE receiver block if you needed one...the plastic one will probably hold up for some time.
Just my $0.02...

Navy87Guy: Nice setup. Folding + Telescoping stock in one.
Best of both worlds.
I have more research to do.
Thanks!
The M4 style stock may look a little weird, but it is definitely the most comfortable AK stock I've ever used. I've found the collapsible feature to be quite beneficial. You can extend the stock to make it "NATO" length with is much more comfortable for most western shooters than the original AK stock. And, you can shorten the stock to accommodate a winter coat or body armor. Did I forget to mention it's comfortable!
Check out some of the stock configurations here starting on page two for some solid ideas: http://www.onesourcetactical.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=143&Page=1
After, I considered turning my fixed stocked Arsenal into a folder and considering the price my best option was to buy another gun to add to the safe. I just bought an underfolder at that point. Two AKs are better than one and with the price approaching $300 to install a stock, the $450 rifle was a steal. It all depends on how you look at it.
