I saw a Spring kit for a Ruger GP100 that someone said should fit into a Police Service Six. I tried out the mainspring, and it was a ton better. I decided to swap out the trigger spring. Having never worked on a Ruger gun before (other then a 10/22) I asked someone who I know is very knowledgable on firearms. He told me how to take it apart.
I get it apart only to find out its a totally different type of spring. So I'm looking the inside of the gun over and pieces start falling out (only 2 or 3). The guy that told me how to take it apart comes up to me and says "I'm going to let you in on a little secret". I'm eagerly awaiting to receive some of his knowledge. He tells me "I've never taken one of these apart before". "I'm going to let you in on another secret. I've never seen one of these taken apart before".
Now I'm starting to sweat it a little bit, because it wasn't my gun that I was experimenting with. He looks at what I'm doing and tells me to try putting one of the parts in another spot. Did that and started putting in back together and its just shy of snapping closed. After several unsucceful attempts, he suggested Just to give it a little bump with a rubber mallet. I can now say that I've got a much greater understanding of Ruger revolvers.
