Recently swapped out truck guns. Was toting the old pistol in a leather holster and everything worked out fine. I'm going to another pistol now and the only holster I have for it is a Comp Tac paddle. I've never used Kydex for long term storage, was wondering if anyone has any idea about how it will hold up now that summer time is upon us. I don't often have a need to carry but I do keep something in the vehicle just in case, and I like to use a paddle holster for this purpose. The pistol will spend more time in the glove box than anywhere else, hence my concern about the temperatures that can build up in a closed vehicle during the summer months.
Thanks!
I don't think it would be inconceiveable but I've stored mine in my truck for many seasons and I've never had issues.
Comp-Tac is built very sturdily.
Depending upon the thickness Kydex can be thermoformed at temperatures as low as 165 degrees.
I think cars only get to about 130 degrees inside on a hot sunny day. Places like Arizona may get a little higher.
I think you'll be safe from your kydex holster melting.

But I did put my black Fobus holster on the dash of my truck, in the hot sun for a couple of hours, then I inserted my Glock part way to expand the locking mechanism at the trigger guard and brought the holster into the air conditioned house. It loosed up the draw nicely.
But Fobus is not made of true Kydex, it's some other polymer, and the Glove box would not be as hot as the dashboard in the sun.
Yes, it will melt, along with the steering wheel, upholstery and dashboard in your vehicle.;)
