I wouldn't think there would be any real gunsmithing to it. L-2 06-24-2007, 12:33 I can't tell what degree of gunsmithing is required. My Mossberg 590A1 came with the sights installed. From what I recall, however, the receiver will need drilling and tapping for the rear sight base; I don't know what holds the front sight on...possibly adhesive/epoxy? It could be silver soldered, but I can't tell. joro 06-24-2007, 14:10 Originally posted by L-2 I can't tell what degree of gunsmithing is required. My Mossberg 590A1 came with the sights installed. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the info. wonderwolf 06-24-2007, 20:52 I'm not going to try and burst your bubble but why put sights on a home defense shotgun? Sights snag and get in the way...a bead is smooth and will not snag as much and is faster to pick up on target (try shooting trap or 5 stand with both types of sights and see what I mean about being able to pick it up in a hurry). At 21' your not going to need sights. One Ragged Hole 06-25-2007, 10:02 My 590A1 is already drilled and tapped from the factory. Remove the two rear plug screws (has 4 in pairs, filled with plug screws) and install the rear sight. The front MIGHT be held on by the threaded hole for the bead. O-R-H EddieMossberg 06-25-2007, 23:38 +1 on the ghost rings. They are super fast to aim and fire. It gives you precise accuracy, where as the bead gives you general accuracy. I like being able to pinpoint the POI using slugs. In defensive situations, sometimes it's what you don't hit that matters most. Luckily, my 590 also came with the ghost rings installed, I suggest having them professionally installed. Good luck! nsabjg 06-30-2007, 01:29 My 590 came with ghost rings and I just put on the heat sheild. The heat sheild went on with no problem at all. Had a 590 with the bead but like the ghost rings better. Deaf Smith 07-12-2007, 21:16 My 590 came chrome, with ghost ring sights! I added a speed feed stock and tac-star 4 round side saddle. I really like that scattergun! Deaf Bonk 07-14-2007, 20:12 I bought the 590A1 with ghost rings, and it zeroed within a couple of clicks with the Remington low recoil slugs. I put a 4-shot sidesaddle, 3-point sling, and light on it, and it's ready to go as a HD shotgun. PeterJasonMN 07-15-2007, 05:27 Originally posted by Bonk I bought the 590A1 with ghost rings, and it zeroed within a couple of clicks with the Remington low recoil slugs. I ordered the sights from Mossberg, the rear sight fits on the scope mounting screws but the front sight has to be soldered on. creekwalker 08-10-2007, 09:37 The front site can be glued on with an epoxy type of glue and will hold if done correctly. creekwalker joro 08-10-2007, 10:52 Thanks B.Reid and creekwalker. Skintop911 08-10-2007, 11:28 Originally posted by creekwalker The front site can be glued on with an epoxy type of glue and will hold if done correctly. creekwalker I wouldn't rely upon it for a defensive use gun, however. 10mmG29 08-11-2007, 13:52 I had the oppurtunity to burn a lot of 00B and slugs through both models...ghost ring and bead...when I bought my own 590A1 I chose the bead, but the GR sight works very well with slugs. Inside 30 yards, the bead is faster, a lot faster...past 30 with a SG is slug territory, and the GR does great with them out to 125. For an all around HD weapon, the GR 590A1 is a great choice. jeremy1 08-15-2007, 21:26 Originally posted by Skintop911 I wouldn't rely upon it for a defensive use gun, however. My stock sight was loose from the factory. I put some loctite 262 in the dovetail, clamped it and let it set for a day. I have gone through 500+ rounds and that thing wont come off short of a punch and hammer. Anything that holds up that well is cleared for SD duty in my books. I wish you well with that. jeremy1 08-31-2007, 01:07 Originally posted by Skintop911 I wish you well with that. I just got a Mepro front sight in. The old sight that I used loctite on was a real pain to remove. I started with a punch and the thing wouldnt move. I couldn't get a good clamp in the vise without damaging the barrel so I took it into work and used a hydraulic press. That sight was really in there and there is no way it was moving. The press was overkill but I just couldnt clamp it without causing damage. I think that proved that loctite was all that is needed. G31Steve 09-14-2007, 09:32 I removed the plastic for wood on my 590 now looks like the modern trench gun. joro 09-14-2007, 15:49 Originally posted by G31Steve I removed the plastic for wood on my 590 now looks like the modern trench gun. You got any pics? liliysdad 09-16-2007, 10:17 Mossberg solders the front sight one. I have installed several sets, including the set on my 870 I use for work. I epoxy the sight on with JB Weld, and after it cures, I D&T two 4-40 screws on the fore and aft sides of the dovetail. I have never had one come off, and I am far from gentle. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
