golden sabers are one of the hollow points that are accepted by law enforcements in the states. based on their studies... expansion and penetration are good. they have a chart on their website that u can check.

I am not a gun master, ha?
However...

For business, I keep my platforms hopped up on
Remington Golden Saber 102 gr .380 ACP and
Remington Golden Saber 230 gr .45 ACP

Less muzzle flash than PMC Starfires, and less jarring recoil,
without giving up any terminal oomph. If your blaster involves
an aluminium alloy ramp, you may observe miniscule wear, although
not as severe as with oher hard-jacket JHP's, like Twin Pines'
chisel-toothed "silver bullets" JHP.

I'll summarize this whole thread for yu -

the veteran's will tell you, stop worrying about your ammo and work on your accuracy

then your going to ask - i'm already working on my accuracy , I just want to know what's the best carry ammo?

someone will say - fafa, sabi ng Pistol Today the golden saber has 127% chance stoppping power

than someone will say - it's where your bullets hit that's important bro

blah blah blah

Just buy the damn sabers hehe father's day gift for yourself

Carrying my gun? I'm not even sure where it is hehe

You may all have good praises on the golden saber but allow me to be the devils advocate here as my experience with it was not so good.

Using my 1911 with a 2 port comp on it, the 230gr golden saber had a good recoil, which is manageable but you can feel its sharper. Accuracy was my problem, it gave me like a 4 inch grouping on the paper at a 20 meter distance.

I compared it with the corbon and pmc hollow points, and these two performed better with groupings good as below an inch at 20 meters.

Just food for thought based on experience

I read in American Handgunner that the reason why Springfield got the contract for the FBI 1911 pistol is because all those who entered their 1911 for the trials like Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Kimber etc. could not meet the FBI spec of 1 inch at 25 yards with designated ammo, Remington Golden Saber. Only Sprngfield did it. All the other manufacturers said that Remington GS is inherently innacurate with its short driving band. The saving grace of Remington GS is that with its short driving band, the bullet has less contact with the barrel allowing less friction and higher velocities on standard loads giving Remington GS one of the best stopping power in .45 (230 grs), .40 (165 grs) and .38 Special and .357 Magnum (125 grs) and 9mm (124 grs +P).

Its my choice of carry load BTW. It's a combat load not a target load so I'd say it is combat accurate so don't worry too much about its accuracy.

I'm glad yall are talking about this.

I decided to see what kind of groups I could shoot with some 45acp,230 gr, golden sabers. I was grossly dissapointed at the group through my G21. At 11 yards off hand, the group was about the size of a paper plate. MV was averaging 800 fps. I won't buy any more of these anytime soon.

Buy comparison I was practicing with some handloads, 185gr jhp zero's and 5.5 gr 231,oal 1.205-1.210, MV averaging 750 fps. And the grouping was about the size of a softball.

I wonder if anyone has loaded 231, with this projectile to 1075 fps? I'm thinking its going to take about 6.8-7.0 gr of 231 to make that happen. I'm just a little worried about the pressure. I think this would be a very good defense load, and accurate as well.

:)

Hi McGrady,

I'm too easy.
Your disappointment is my satisfaction, hehe:
I get slightly worse groups at 10 meters,
using modified Isosceles, rapid ...on a good day.
(I'm chucking it from a 5" barrel M1911 platform, at that)

What got me started. using the Remington GS?
My wife liked the gold colored jacket, and insisted

Now that Armscor's putting out "blondes" as well (FMJ),
things should be more affordable once I rotate out my
current stock for range use/disposal.

:)
cheers,
