View Full Version : Tru-glo TFO vs. Trijicon
Hey guys I've been using that nice search button up there on this forum to do a little research on these two night sights. I have to ask now from those who actually own these two, which one has been more reliable ? I need new night sights for my carry G19 and I was pretty set on the TFO's until I read about a couple of problems with the exposed tritium inserts on the front sights.
I understand also that the staked front sights aren't as reliable so the other option is Trijicon. I love the idea and sight picture of the TFO but if the trijicon night sights are more reliable for a carry gun (wont be knocked loose and out of alignment) then thats the way to go.
Either way I go they will be installed by an alleged glock certified armorer who works at the local range. Thanks.

I have never used Tru-Glo sights, but have used trijicon, Meprolights, and now only use Amerglo. I like the sight picture of the trijicon better, just preference. Ameriglo, which uses trijicon inserts by the way, are a very well made sight. I started using Ameriglo about 2 years ago. They are a little cheaper than trijicons, and their customer service is great. Their front sight is also a little better than trijicons. One thing I found out about trijicons front sight is their's is not exactly the same height as stock Glock sights. Not shure of the measurement but they are different. Ameriglo's front sight is exactly the same height and all I have used shoot POA every time. Ameriglo also has optional widths on thier front sights. .165 by .140 is standard and they offer a .165 by .124 tritium width sight as well. They have numerous sight set options give them a look. I am starting to lean more towards the trijicons just because they seem like they wont be going anywhere once mounted. Which particular set do you recommend for a carry guy ? I would imagine one with a larger front sight would be best.

I have the ameriglo classic set on my 17, 21SF, and 23. They have a set called the operator that blacks out the white outlines on the rear sights, and uses the thinner front sight. I prefer the classic myself. yes the ameriglo are set once the are on. I have never had a set come loose, or move.
Thanks for all the help guys I decided to go with the Ameriglo operator set from LWD just to be safe.

Good Day OG556, and et al.,
I can say very good things about the Trijicons as I prefer them the most. They have a nice balance of daylight on both sides of the front post for my preference. Tough, really tough have endured some serious incidents without fail. My oldest set is going on 8 years buy the markings on them. Definitely not as bright as the more contemporary sets but good enough for this kid.
The PT and Meprolights are the second and third choice. On my set of Mepros I've hogged out the rear notch to allow more daylight on the both sides of the front post.
A quick durability observation on the Mepros. I was working on one of my glocks when the slide took a dive off my work bench. Just as with buttered toast the wrong side of the slide hit first. There was a beautifully loud ringing sound from the slide as it hit the concrete floor. One of the first things I could see was a piece of something flying out at an off angle. So I'm bracing for the worst as I pick up the slide. As it turns out the the top of the slide is covered with dust and debris. I figured the piece that flew out was something from the slide, principally the sights. Well, I wiped it off to examine it for damage. Surprise, everything looked alright. Not even black wore / chipped. Heck the sights didn't even shift position. My concrete floor was a different matter. I've now got a small divot to remind me of the event.
I will also say the dots on the Mepros are visually bigger, so for those of you who want them big, this might be what you are looking for.
Good luck to ya! Be well!

I have TFO on a XD 45 and trijicon on the rest of my guns. I have had mepros in the past and have one glock with factory glock night sights. I would say I would buy the trijicon. I like my TFO sights but I tend to shoot with a standard set better. The reason is I find the green glowing dots a distraction and cause my eye to focus more on the dot then the target with the sight out of focus. The trijicons are also a bit cheaper then the TFO sights. I like trijicon better then mepro since I like the outline on the trijicons better.
