View Full Version : lone wolf conv barrel issues

I just tried out my lone wolf 9mm non ported conversion barrel for my 24. There were a few problems, from which I would assume because I have a .40 ejector and am using a 9mm round.
1. 9 out of 10 brass was ejected in my face.
2. 1 out of 5 would stovepipe or FTE in some way
3. 1 out of 10 would fail to load
4. 1 time the brass was jammed in the barrel still and would not come out. I had to field strip it and pull it out with pliers.
I swapped the slide and barrel over to g34 receiver and that fixed the all appearant loading issues.
These normal on a conversion barrel swap?
Is it the fact that I have an ultra long 8.85" slide and the 9mm was too weak to fully open it back?
Thanks in advance
I have a G35 with a LWD 9mm conversion (stock original .40 extractor) and have had zero issues at all. It seems to be just as reliable as the factory barrel (I can't speak for the accuracy as I'm a terrible shot with either.  )

This was not the case with my LWD conversion barrel in my 2nd gen G23. All I changed was the barrel and mag. Give LWD a call and see what they say. Great company to work with, they get my vote, bussiness, and $$.

Sorry for the delay in answering, I do not visit GT every day. Luckily I was checking another post and ran across this one. You would have received a faster answer had you contacted me directly via phone or email.
1 Shoot some +P and watch them eject
2 When a conversion barrel stove pipes it is usually an indicator of low power ammunition
3 Your failure to load is a timing issue. Usually happens with low powered ammo or your recoil spring is too strong
4 Sounds like your using reloads? Are we talking about reloads or factory ammunition?
Odds are your shooting low powered 115 gr ammunition (white box or worse). Yeah sure, it makes velocity but it does not generate enough power to reliably cycle the slide. Run some 124 or 147 through it and you will see a difference. The fact that it runs in your 34 is telling you something.

I had trouble with mine too 9MM for 27. I had to send it back to get reemed out. After that its been 90% reliable for range fun.
2680 rounds and only 1 ejection problem thru my lw 9mm conversion for my 23

Never mind. Listen to JR.

Both of my LWD barrels have had zero issues at all.
Other than the square-nosed, naked lead, hard-cast hunting ammo, which causes some feeding issues, my KKM 10 mm conversion barrel works great in my G21.
Dan at Lone Wolf tells me that a feed ramp polishing job would probably fix the above-mentioned ammo issue. But since I don't hunt, it's no biggie to me.

Got the LWD 40-9 9mm conversion for my G23. 200 rounds through her with CCi Blazer Brass 115gr. and had zero issues. Using G19 mags and LWD 40-9 barrel only, no other mods.

No worries JR, I was not looking for a fast response, I have been out of town where there are no phones and no computers, otherwise I would of called, this was a last minute post before I went out of town.
I was shooting regular old WWB 115 gr. I dont reload and the reason I bought the barrel was to save on range cost. I could save 10-15 bux everytime if I use 115 gr 9mm WWB vs 165 gr. .40 S&W WWB. so shooting +P would make that nil.
The g34 frame only fixed the loading issues which were not really that big of a problem at all.

I went to an 11 lb. spring and had no issues with my G22.
Picketeer: I clicked the link you provided. To tell the truth I never even knew there was a web site that offered this information, its kinda cool.
It seems that if some web site post information such as this the surfing world takes it as gospel, problem is that not all of it is correct. Example: The conversion chart lists the G20 conversion to a 40 as a #2 and nothing on the 357 Sig. The truth of the matter is that the G20 is easily converted to 40/357 using a barrel only and they function flawless using the G20 magazine. The G20 should be listed as a #1 under 40 & 357.
I assume there is a lot of other good information here, just not all (completely) accurate. I think it still pays to check with an expert (LWD).
