laptop photo viewer question

I just got a free laptop from a friend and I have a ?. It is a Sony Vaio with windows ME OS. It has a Kodak program on it that one can use to view and edit pictures. My friend doesn't remember installing it but I don't think it came with the computer.

The problem is, anytime I try to view pics it opens with that program. I prefer the windows picture viewer(or whatever its called) that generally comes with computers. I hate the Kodak program but I can't get rid of it. I tried to uninstall it but it is not listed under add/remove programs. There is also no uninstall feature when I look at it under the programs list. I have not been able to find a way to use any other program besides that for pics. My friend has looked but does not have, or just can't find, a Kodak disc.

Any ideas.....please help.

I had the exact same problem with Windows 98 SE.
First try this program to uninstall the Kodak program. Make sure the Kodak program isn't running in the background.

If that one doesn't do it try this one

If that fails make sure the Kodak program is not running by pressing Alt-Control-Delete kys at the same time. Then go to the Programs folder and find the Kodak folder in it. Delete it. Then run this this program to help sort the registry.

If you can't get it uninstalled you might try changing the default associations for the the file types you want to view..

If it is JPEGS .. In Windows Explorer.. tools.. folder options..

Click the file types tab...

Find JPEG and JPG.. then you can "Change" which application opens jpg's by default..
