I have a 20" Mossberg 500A security model. I purchased a 28" barrel to swap out if i choose, my problem is that the barrel nut is in the wrong spot to screw in to my gun. This 28" barrel looks as if it will only fit a model with a shorter mag tube.I know some of the 500's have a 5 shot capacity mine is 7 or 8 i believe. My question for someone is do they either sell a different 28" barrel for my model or a shorter mag tube. Thanks

You've discovered the one of the main difference between Mossberg and Remington shotguns. While Remington shotguns use the same length magazine tube - the only thing that varies is if a magazine tube extension has been installed - on each gun regardless of design (express, tactical, police, wingmaster, etc.), Mossberg's magazine tube varies in length on the field guns versus the special purpose guns. This means it is much more difficult, or impossible, to have a Mossberg shotgun with a hunting barrel and a large magazine capacity tube. I don't know of anyone out there who makes a hunting barrel like what you're in need of.
I think you're likely SOL. Sorry.

Yep, unless you traded with someone for their short barrel and tube assy. For example, I have a 18.5" and 5 shot tube I would gladly swap for a 20" with the 8 shot tube. To get the tube from the reciever my understanding is that you need some heat to free up the loctite on the threads.

This is correct.Buy a short magazine tube and spring to go with your longer hunting barrel. You may or may not need to heat the joint to get the old tube unscrewed from the receiver.Sometimes a drop of fingernail polish remover will loosen up the thread locker.Just be sure not to get it on the stock finish.tom.
They sell the 28 inch vent rib barrel with the 8 shot mag tube compatability on the Maverick Arms website.
