This poll has been posted per a request from GT user "Fox". Just looking for the basic info for comparison, but if you wish, you may share make/model/calibre/etc. Thanks!

I have a couple dozen handguns, but mostly carry my G33 or Bersa Thunder 380. During the winter, I sometimes carry my G19. During the hottest days, I'll carry a pocket gun, such as my Beretta Tomcat.

Always a S&W 640 or 642 -- either as a back-up to my trusty G22, or as a primary, with a KT P-3AT as backup (depending on the situation and where I am working).

Have been known to carry all 3!

(Paranoid? No, just the nature of my job.)

I carry a semi-auto. I really admire Smith & Wesson J frames, but just don't shoot them worth a darn. [No doubt a failing on my part]

I have a Taurus snubby in forty-five cal. that I will sometimes pocket when I am walking around the yard or going to my mailbox, which is about 150 yards from my front door. Seems to be a decent gun, although I haven't shot it a lot. Bought it on a whim one day.......

2014 update: Switch mainly between a Dan Wesson CCO and an H&K P2000sk in 9mm. Have Ryan Grizzle and TT Gunleather holsters for both.

I pocket carry a S&W 638 snubby for daily walks around the
neighborhood.

glock2626

642 with the c.t. grips. Really haven't taken the glock out since. Even with open sight at 15 yards i can usually keep 4/5 in a sheet of paper with fairly rapid firing. 7 yards and in i run 5/5 without the lazer. I usually dont practice a whole lot with the lazer. If it's at night you'll see it and if its in the day its not worth looking for though you can usually pic it up on a sunny day at 7 yards without much trouble. Maybe favorate thing is being able to shoot from the hip if needed and do it accurately. Anyways its light and you hardly know its there. I live in a pretty good area so i'm not feeling the need to pack something with 15 rounds. Not to mention even with 5 i should be able to get the job done.

Autos. Deep concealment is a P-3AT. I have nothing against a revolver though, in fact I like shooting them, but they are generally a little large due to the fact they have a cylinder.

PhuzzyGnu

Until recently, I carried a G20 exclusively.

G20 Setup:
Extended slide lock, slide release, and mag catch.
3.5lb connector/NY1 spring.
XS Tritium Big Dot sights.
Wolff 22# spring/ guide rod.
2 spare 15 round mags.

It is loaded with 15+1 rounds of DoubleTap 165gr Gold Dot ammo.

Holsters are C-TAC (almost always), Tucker Gunleather HF2 (most other times) or (occasionally) Comp-tac Settable cant. Blade-Tech dual mag OWB carrier.

Lately, however, I have carried my new G29 about 50% of the time.

G29 Setup:
Extended slide release
3.5lb connector/NY1 spring.
Wolff 21# spring/guide rod.
Ameriglo tritium sights.
(sometimes) 2 spare 15 rd mags

It is loaded with 10+1 rounds of DoubleTap 165gr Gold Dot ammo.

Holster is usually a Bianchi Triad ankle holster, if not then the Tucker HF2 or C-TAC. I have pocket carried it in the 5.11s. Blade-Tech dual mag OWB carrier if I carry spares.

Sometimes I carry both.

I carry either a Ruger SP-101 .357 with 158 gr. double taps using gold dot hollow points. Or a Glock 27 .40 S&W with 165 gr. double taps again using gold dot hollow points.....

The ruger is carried in a Comp Tac C-T.A.C IWB holster. And the Glock 27 is in either a Comp Tac C-T.A.C or carried by a Clip-Draw. I use a good sturdy 1.5" wilderness belt and have no fear of the 27 goin off on its own. But would not do so in just a pair of shorts or anything without a good belt helping protect the trigger.

:) Just to keep things simple, I carry some combination of five different pistols: As a primary weapon either a Glock G-21, an S&W Model 686, or a German-made Walther PPK-S.

As a backup weapon either a Beretta, 'Alley Cat', that same Walther PPK-S, a second G-21, or an S&W Model 59. (Which has always been something of a, 'lucky gun' for me!)

Initially, I couldn't make up my mind how to answer the survey; after thinking about it, I'm going to say, 'automatic'.

My 24-7/EDC is one or more SP101 snubbies, with .357 ammo. When I want to pack heavier, I add a Ruger GP100 or Speed Six to the mix. This is on my own time; I am required to carry an autoloader in my police duty rig. I could carry the duty pistol on my own time, but very rarely do so. I chose the SIG 229R with the DAK trigger as a duty pistol, because, of the approved choices, it most closely matches my sixguns in balance, feel, and trigger stroke length. Edited to add: I like my autoloaders just fine, from Seecamp to Mustang to SIG to 1911.

Kahr Pm9 IWB with spare mag if traveling within the state, but mostly I just drop the S&W 340PD in my front pocket and go.

These guns are light, reliable, and accurate enough for defensive purposes. Although the Smith needed some time before I could hit with it.

My big guns...1911, XD .357, P99, ect. only see range or night table duty. I see no need as a civilian to buy any more "big" hand guns.

Well, I think the results of this poll will probably be pretty skewed, seeing as this is a Glock forum. Also, some of the older folks that CCW but are less...computer-saavy, shall we say, are probably less likely to be on a gun forum than the younger kids who are more predisposed to autoloaders.

As to the poll, I don't carry yet, but I voted revolver because that is what I WILL carry as soon as I get my CCW.

Hey, I am 62, so I guess that makes me one of the "older folks" but seems like I spend a lot of time helping out my kids and grandkids with their computers, for one who is supposed to be NOT computer savvy! :tongueout:

Plus I was a Glock CCW fan long before I found this website. My choice of the G23 was not influenced by this site. I have over 4000 rounds, with out any type of malfunction thru my 23. And I carry it 12 hours a day, in and out of cars all day long, very comfortably and deeply concealed in the SmartCarry.

I know when I pull the trigger it will go BANG! THAT is why it is my choice for CCW

How do ya like your G39? I just fired my G38 for the first time this weekend and wonder... how well does your sub-compact version handle the recoil? Does it have a little "punch" to it?

I could be away from home over the next 6 months and will leave the G38 with my wife. Would the G39 be a good backup to have as a CCW and primary while I'm traveling? Thanx!

Glock 19 with trijicon n/s, 15+1rds of Corbon 125+P JHP, smooth G17 trigger, maritime firing pin cups, stock trigger pull, parkerized finish, carried in IWB leather holster, in fanny pack or poked down the front of my pants "Gangsta Style".

This is my only handgun that I carry. I shoot it all the time, and I am an excellent shot. I consistantly qualify with a 100% for my Department shooting the standard Oklahoma Law Enforcement course of fire. I enjoy plinking and general thrashing around "commando" shooting.

Normally carry a well concealed Glock 29 in a custom holster, but I just bought a Kimber Ultra Carry II in .45 auto. I seem to shoot more consistently with a short sighting radius than I do with a standard 1911A1, plus second shot target acquisition is much better with the shorter (bbl)

Newbie here with lotsa permits and looking for more... never carried a day in my life but am playing with lots of options.

So far I have it down to Glock 30 primary carry with Glock 26 backup. They are easily "canada legal" which is a must for me as I live in Toronto though am a yank.

I also have a bunch of other guns including a Kimber TLII/RLII, Walther P99, Ruger P345 and a bunch of others. My reaction is that for the most part they are all too heavy for 24/7 carry, excepting perhaps the Walther P99 with the Ruger P345 next in line. Also have a BUL M5 Ultra X Compact. Dead nuts accurate but still a bit heavier than I would like for CCW. The Sig P226 is right out to lunch. My pants fall down when I let go of my belt to draw... works real well for me though. The perps fall down on the ground laughing at my boxer shorts. I really like the Walther P99. It is light and accurate.

I am only discussing the 'bet your life on it' guns here. Anything that has jammed more than once is off my life forever unless resolved.

I also have an XD45 and just bought a paddle holster for it to carry under a jacket. It is lovely. Bit on the large size and I find that at combat range the Glock 30 and 26 are every bit as accurate, especially with the Storm Lake barrel installed. I have Storm Lake barrels installed in both... came from a bad production run unfortunately from the looks of it. It didn't take them more than a blink to replace them both... and I am NOT the first owner. Now THAT's service. And "BET YOUR LIFE" quality. Ran several hundred rounds through both new replacement barrels on the Glocks without a single failure. God... I love it. I am anal about cleanliness though and take the slide to bits after each and every shoot and use far too much gun butter (another incredible product) to lube them. They run as smooth as a baby's behind. In fact I used some Gun Butter on my washroom faucets this weekend and they are now working better than they have in twenty years. Thanks guys!

So, what do YOU carry? 24/7 concealed that is. And more importantly, what do you carry it in?

I am inclined to go with the Milt Sparks VMII for my G26, G30 and Walther P99. Those I think are going to be my carry guns. I think the others are all going to go up for sale although it breaks my heart, especially with the Kimbers. Someone suggested I go with the Pro Tac magazines and I have never had a misfeed in my Kimbers since. Not a one - "BET YOUR LIFE" safe.

I have more handguns that anyone should while my wife has indulged my need to find out for myself what is best for me to carry stateside. I have discovered that if you choose carefully you do not need to sacrifice a darned thing by going compact and light.(G26, G30, P99AS) I would highly recommend the Kimbers for a duty gun... the extra weight definitely reduces time to re-acquire the target... but at what cost? Heck, if we forget about weight, etc., I would choose my Smith & Wesson 686-2 wheel gun with custom barrel counterweight. It is my most accurate centre fire, bar none, regardless of caliber. I can shoot 1.5" groups at 30 feet all day long. I can shoot pie plates while walking all day long I am sure as well (yet to try).

Holsters? Milt Sparks VMII and Summer Special. And I like the looks of a few of the other leather holsters as well. Black leather for me all the way. And I have got to have tuckable due to my varying dress code. One day T shirt; the next day suit; the next day out in the evening in a tux. Keep in mind that the smallest I can carry and bring home with me across the border must have a 4.25 inch barrel. I want to keep everyone happy so I even installed a safe in back of our minivan. (Two actually... guns and ammo seperately; tremendous peace of mind especially with the kids).

So.. my $.02 worth so far. I am still assembling data and trying out suggested guns for carry, target shooting and IPSC, etc. And I am still evaluating holsters although I did see some VMII's in stock somewhere the other day and can't find the place now.

Please keep them comments coming. They are sincerely appreciated and rest assured put to very good use.

With warmest regards to all as always,

TorontoGunGUy

P.S. Would the fellow who I bought the wee parts from three weeks ago please contact me; I have lost your email and cannot send off the payment. Apologies, we have had family medical catastrphies here for the past few weeks and this past week I managed to break my foot as well (wife did same thing 6 weeks ago and took out the opposing knee in the all.... but we are the lucky ones... it's downhill from there my friends).

Please... more comments on the Pager Pal holsters. I do not think a pager will draw any untoward attenion but am more concerned with the usability of the holster; does it provide for a fast draw even after sufficient practice?

Immediate reaction - it gets the entire gun below the waistband eliminating the need for a cover garment (although I might be inclined to wear 'something' anyway... but for t shirt weather it is a godsend.

Most of my other holsters get the holster top pretty much at the or just barely below the waistband; leaving the grip of the gun exposed and obvious.

DOES IT WORK?

Depending on the weather and what sort of shirt or jacket I'm wearing, I carry either a Glock 27 or a Beretta PX-4 40 Caliber. Love em both.

Uuuuh...a Glock? Could not resist and at the risk of revealing that I did not scroll through 60 gazillion pages to get here I carry a "nunya".

As in nun ya business.

Again, could not resist.

Back when I was a commisioned officer and was off duty I'd carry a sweet little 6 shot colt revolver 2" barrel, I don't have it anymore but I wish I did!

Up until last week I carried a PPK 380. Then there was the home invasion robbery down the street. I now carry a Para-Ordnance "Carry" 45ACP. I sent my model 23 into Glock for a little modernization (Gen2). This weekend I'll be purchasing probably a model 30 at the gun show. I'll also see about getting a laser light for it. Coupla them stuck in my belt and the 870 with extended magazine and folding stock slung over my shoulder and we should be ready to Rock and Roll. :)

I may be repeating myself here... but in any event have changed my mind and carry thus:

IWB: HK P7M8 squeeze cocker or one of my wee 1911 variants with a grip safety and thumb safety.

OWB: Above or G26 or G30

I also have a great affinity for my Walther P99 but only OWB.

I have a problem with carrying IWB with one in the chamber aimed at my vitals sitting in the car, etc., unless there is a POSITIVE safety like a grip safety or squeeze cocker or such. OWB.. no problem any longer.

And one in the tube is the way I carry now. Always. Speed to first effective shot is essential.

BTW... watch some of Ayoob's DVD's and you will want to carry a semi auto shotgun on your belt. 20 guage. Awesome... Six rounds in under 2 seconds.. all on the money. Nothing left of the target.

UPDATE:
I have decided that I am just plain confused. I love LOVE my HK P7M8's (two of them) and they are (and I am in full agreement with the reviews) the absolute fastest and most accurate to draw and triple tap next to the Glocks... which have nothing to fuss with. The only thing to fuss with on the P7M8 is the squeeze cocker grip... which is just what I am looking for in terms of passive reliability and safety anyway. So IWB/OWB it's gotta be the P7M8's. Period. But now I am going through my .40 and .45 cal. pistols. One must keep in mind that living in Canada one must have a barrel that is in the 106mm min siz (about 4.25") in order for the gun to be legal and not prohibited (duh?). So to avoid cross border travel hassles all of my guns are Canada legal. No beautiful snubbies which I would certainly be using amongst the arsenal. One of those wee .38/.357 Scandium jobs I think. But no can do. So for .45 I go with Ayoob's favourite, the Ruger P345 with grip safety and thumb safety carried cocked and locked with one in the chamber. And also a Transmark BULL M5 Ultra X Compact, which is the perfect carry gun if you intend to transport cross border. (Carried in a lock box or trunk safe of course). Transmark is supposed to be tweaking my M5 to perfection through Marstar their Canadian distributor... already have had offer from the US distributor to tweak to 'bet your life on it' quality from DALY. Outstanding customer service and assuming that Marstar takes care of the issue they have found a loyal customer for life. And a proponent of their services. Both the aforementioned 45's are accurate, reliable and handy. Now to the Glocks... only OWB carry, I would carry either my G26 or G30 with ported Storm Lake Barrel. OUTSTANDING. Have toyed with carrying a full size G21 as well. It feels so gooooood. Also love the Walther P99 in 9 mm. Too many guns. Whatever you pick in the end.... and don't go with a whole smorgasbord or guns and holsters for self defense.... use what you carry and carry what you use. That's why we are whittling things down to a couple of models and holsters and the rest will go back on the block in a couple of weeks. Have a beautiful Beretta and a Sig P226 that I absolutely love. But it does not meet my requirements.

I usually carry my G23 or my Sig P220. I have been hauling the 220 a lot since I bought it and believe in that .45 caliber after hearing a buddy of mine tell me about an officer involved where he works. If I am going somewhere that it would be hard to CC my 220, my G23 is right there.
