View Full Version : Bore Guides....Necessary?
Is it really necessary to buy a bore sight guide to clean your AR15 with? I've read where some folks don't think they're necessary unless you have a really accurate varmint gun (I'm using mine mainly for plinking and HD). I'm going to get a Dewey rod so not really worried about damaging the barrel, but I'm not opposed to buying one if it's really necessary. Considering they run around $30 for a good one, I'll buy one if it's necessary, but if it's not, I'd rather use that towards the ever increasing cost of .223 ammo.

Unless it's a match/varmint gun, no.

I replyed to this basiclly in your other post. Make sure to use a one piece coated or fiberglass rod or the Otis cable system and your bore will be protected.

I already have one, and like it, but my GI rifle survived cleaning with a jointed steel rod. Somebody swiped mine, and we all joked that it would damage the guy's deer rifle. I hope it did. :tongueout:
The guide might not be essential, but it does make cleaning easier.
