So what the hell is the deal with the lack of 36 extended slide releases? Why is there none on the market?
My shooting hand is not strong enough to facilitate using the release, I have to rack the slide with the left hand after reloading. Just looking to improve my carry tactics.
It is a slide stop not a slide release. If your support hand is available it should be used to load the chamber from slide lock by gripping the top of the slide aft of the ejection port and pulling completely and forcefully to the rear until the slide stops and then release. This completely compresses the mainspring and allows for a quick recovery to a two handed grip. With practice this becomes a very quick and reliable method of recovery from slide lock.
This is my personal advice given in a desire to help and is not intended to keep you from persuing an extended slide stop if that is what you truly desire.
G36 is go! I like that...I think I'll use that as a sig.

For what it is worth, I had also read that releasing the slide with the stop would prematurely wear it out.

Possibly, but in a stress-fire situation you are more likly to use it as a mag release, like all other autos do. I doubt the part is Tennifer treated, but is not cut from a tuna can, either.
And if you lose the ability to respond with two good upper extremities, you will be sorry you didn't "wear it in" a little.
Probably a $10 part, if you do round it off.
You can find one on glockparts.com Its new.
Here is my question - yesterday I picked up my new 36 - magazine in firearm (empty) and slide locked back. Should I not be able to pull back the slide a little bit and let it go gently forward without having to touch the slide lock? The only way I could get the slide to go forward was to press on the slide lock with my right hand (thumb) and let slide go gently forward with left hand.

Glockmeister in Phoenix has the extended slide stop lever. Easy to order online, and I have generally received my items in just a few days.

If I understand correctly...an empty mag in and the slide is locked...so far so good. Press the mag release and drop the empty mag. Now without touching the slide stop, pull the slide back as far as it will go and release. If the slide does not go into battery there is a problem with your gun. Return it to the store or Glock.

IF the empty mag is still in the gun. This is normal. The follower in the mag is pushing up on the stop/release. Remove the mag or load it.
Thanks Blasko and ipscshooter. She works like she is supposed to. It was me who messed up by leaving the empty mag in her. I am learning. I am sorta making the move a bit from the little snubby to the little pistol. Last night I looked at the owners booklet like I should have done in the first place and pretty much figured out what you guys said.
np dude...enjoy your new toy :)
