None of the above.. you're paying too much.
A Remington 870 Police Magnum (parkerized, my choice) generally runs $400-450.
The 870P MAX (comes with light, shell holder, etc) probably (haven't priced one) runs about what the XCS Marine Magnum does and has a lot more to it.
The 870 Police is the standard for combat shotguns. You can add on to it, and it's cheaper than any of those.

Most gun shops. Make sure it says POLICE MAGNUM on the side or you're getting screwed. Ask if the shop is a Remington law enforcement dealer, if they are, they should be able to get 870P's. The Police isn't restricted to LE (some try and say it is) but if they're not an L.E dealer they can't order them.

I am also in the same place as you, with very similar requirements.
Your third choice seems kinda out of the blue though? What are you requirements for the gun? Are you looking for wet weather durability? Or just something that looks/sounds "cool"?
Do you really need a breaching muzzle? And if you are using it for home defense, I would probably stick with a pump, just for the sake of reliability.

I'll admit that a big part of the decision is tied to the "looks cool" factor. In this gun category, any of us can talk about dependability, sights, scopes, pistol grips, heat shields, breachers, etc. But the plain truth of it is this. ANY of these modern weapons (and most older ones) will do the job we require them to do which is to send a load of #1 buckshot 10-15 feet if and when that need ever becomes a reality. Until then, it's job is to lie somewhere close to my bed every night and wait for that opportunity. So, yes...looking cool is part of the equation and while most might not admit that, they've all spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on their ARs & shorties trying to achieve it.
My thinking on the Marine & XCS is not because I'll be carrying it in foul weather but because my intent is to keep it for life and to pass it on to my sons and their sons along with the rest of my arsenal. Why not spend the extra $100 now to increase the odds of that happening?
AND, because they just look damned COOL!

i reckon you wouldn't be stuck if you didn't like it and they'll still make 870s and Mossbergs.
I happen to know that is a Very Fast action, not junk one bit.

I have to admit that's a good looking shotgun and weighs almost a full pound less than the comps. I already own a Winchester 1300 Black Shadow which I use as a deer slug gun and I like it a bunch.
I'll have to take a good long look at this one too. Thanks

Worst case you will end up paying $5-600 for the Remington 870 Police which is no more expensive than your other choices.
You could also look around for a police trade-in, I picked up a 11-87 Police model for $400 a year or two ago.

Yes, where are you finding a 870P for that kind of money? I would be very interested in obtaining one!

Funny thing is that I don't think I would part with this gun for even $600.
I just happened to walk in the door at the right time. He had just put out 6-8 of them, by the time I left they were all gone.
Good luck finding what you want.
Steve
Steve,
You're right. All the Rem 870 Police Magnums I'm finding are in excess of $600 with synthetic stocks. Makes both the Marine & XCS look better & better.

if you notice it says at the top:
"Historic Product No Longer In Production "
Though you may still be able to find one. My Friend has an older one (not NRA and with out the fiber optic sight). He had it for many years 15 - 20 (not sure, but many) and it still looks great.

If the 870P was more than the Marine model.......honestly? I'd pay it.
Folks,
There are two 870Ps listed right now in the FireArms for Sale area here. They are model 4901 with 18" barrels & wood stocks with 4+1 capacity.
Questions:
How much would it cost to add the extended tube?
How much would synthetic stocks cost?
Anything about this model I should know? Is the the Police Magnum?
Thanks

I'd want pics (including where it's stamped Police Magnum on the reciever).
Synthetic stock, like a Choate or Speedfeed generally run around $70 for the stock and fore-end.
A +2 add-on from someone like Wilson, or Vang-Comp is going to be around $50 i think.
Still, a decent all-around gun and a good price if it's a real 870P (not an Express).

Ok take a deep breath, breath out ... Now think about it, don't buy your one and only HD shotgun on a whim. While all of those guns look nice, you need something tough and with mean reliability. Do your research, check around for data, then go buy a Mossberg 590A1. There is a reason the military used it for so many years. And no it's because it's affordable. It's very tough and mine has never failed in any way. It's right here with me right now. Make sure you get the A1 model as it has a sronger barrel and all steel parts. Your looking at maybe $425.00 NIB.
Ultimately it's up to you, but I always recommend this gun because it is just a beast and completely worry free.

Just my opinion.
I've got to be honest here, and say that I've had an 870 Express combo for ~18 years. I have fired thousands of rounds on a skeet league with it, bird hunted with it, hunted deer with it, kept it for home defense with the smooth bore, rifle sighted slug barrel. To those who call it junk, all I can say is, you are missing out on a great bargain.

I'd have to bet that a Remington Express built 18 years ago is a completely different gun than one being currently built, but I could be wrong.
What it all boils down to is buying the best that you can afford. Why spend $600 on a dolled up Express model when you can spend $600 on a Police Magnum gun that will last the rest of your life?
Steve
If it was me, I would take the Mossberg Auto, since I already have two Mossy pummpers.
If it was my first shotgun??? no doubt, and 870P would be the way to go.

Rem. 870 . You cant go wrong with it. Why do you think that so many police departments use them? Its built to withstand years of use and abuse. Our police , sheriffs, and correctional officers use them here. Ive had mine for over 20 years. Used it to hunt, target shoot, and of course, Home Defense. Change the barrel, add sights, flashlights, lasers, sidesaddle shell holder, slings, etc. Customization to your tastes are endless. Just my humble opinion. :)
