Well, I saw one at a local gun shop priced in the mid 9s. I would guess most of these will end up forever NIB and given the self-defense value of a sightless gun it's probably a good idea.
However, the best line of the day was from a friend of mine. After seeing the sights ...

... he named it the "Colt Vaginer." :hugs:

Colt will sell some because it's a Colt, and it's new, but they really should offer "sights" as an option at some point, without the channel down the middle.
i like.i wish my kimber ultra carry had such a sight.much better for carry.remember self defensive range is up close.point and shoot.

If you want a 1911 style pistol with sights, there are plenty to choose from! I have handled this one and it is made for "up close and personal" situations and I could care less that it doesn't have sights!
I will own one in the future and make it a great BUG or primary carry gun when small, thin and light is needed.
One of the strong-points of a 1911 is the grip angle and its natural pointability and this gun is designed for point-shooting up close!
I just bought one today. Paid mid 9's for it. Probably could have internet shopped it and saved 100 bucks. I did go online and get the the Crimson Trace laser for it. I am not concerned about lack of iron sites. I wanted to want a Kimber Ultra Covert II. I researched every thing I could find on it and came away concerned about reliablity. Conversely I found almost nothing ill about the Colt Defender. The Kimber is more sexy no doubt but that is only worth so much. This is the first non Sig handgun I have bought in almost 20 years. The last was a Colt Delta Elite 10mm Gold Cup.

They do its called a Defender Those that have bought the Agent and shot it don't find the lack of normal sights a problem. This not first SD pistol to use this type of sight.
I suggest befor you knock something you try it .
If I didn't all ready have a Defender and a Officer I would be seriously looking at one .
"I suggest befor you knock something you try it"
There's nothing to try. Pistols of that size should have sights IMO.
If someone wants to carry a little pocket pistol without sights, go for it...! That "ain't" a pocket pistol.
And, I wasn't knocking Colt. Simply, an OPTION for people that want sights. Defender is stainless...no thanks!
900s yiks!i chose my UC over the defender because it was around 150 less. reliability is a wash.

My Defender is a alloy frame as is every one I've handled. Very lite weight. I have carried the Defender in my jeans pocket and I sure others here have also. A 3" barrel and short grip is easy to conceal. My officer is steel frame and weighs about as much as a Combat commander. That why I went to Defender. weight difference.
I suggest you learn to point shoot. Might be time you can't get in your perfect world 2 hand hold and use those sights. Always nice to have more than one option.
I have had an Agent for a month or so....a little less than 200 rounds thru it so far, zero issues. The sights really are a non issue, aim a little high using the sights and you are good to go!
Paid $889 for mine locally, have carried it a number of times, love it so far.

Maybe this New Agent will sell like hotcakes, although I suspect that the very similar model made by Kimber--its name evades me at the moment--does not. There are so many more 1911 variants I can think of that probably would have been more popular for Colt's to manufacture at this time...the revival of either the Delta Elite or Concealed Carry Officer's ACP model to name a couple.
I think it will sell very well, 3" 1911s seem to.
This little Colt fills a growing need in CCW. All they really did was make a sightless Defender ( I also have a Defender Plus) so I am sure that Colt did not invest too much in this design. I am very very happy with mine so far.
:)
sight cuts and sights sold separately :hugs:
Decent little gun, first saw at Shot Show, got one last month, paid 750.00 new, Kimber Ultra RCP, same set up, far superior.
I put 200 rounds through mine last week in one range visit. Very accurate for such a small handgun. At 15 yards it would hold a three inch group. Not one malfunction. I fed it FMJ both aluminium and brass casing and about 50 rounds of old Gold Dots. Great little gun. I am now mounting a Crimson Trace on it. From what I read about the Kimber Ultra I would have had to send it back right now to get worked on. I really wanted the Kimber, but in the end it was the negative press the pushed me to the COLT and I see now that was a good thing.
ksss,
What kind of problems are you refering to regarding Kimber Ultra
Covert II?
I bought mine two weeks ago, put over 400 rounds with zero problems.
No malfunctions of any kind.
I am really curious to hear about Kimber UC II problems.

Is it possible we are witnessing a paradigm shift?
Two ultracompact 1911's in two weeks and they both run? ;)

Make that three! I have an Ultra CDP 2 that I bought to carry when my Pro was a little big for the occasion, and never had one issue (with either!) I have over 800 rounds down the tube with no problems.

My Ultras is going on 6 as well with a replacement of the guide rod/spring after about 3k rds. I disagree auto45. the 3"bbl .45's are not realized for target shooting and are assumed to be a "pocket pistol". These easily concealable service caliber guns are more than capable of defending individuals in typical defensive ranges. I feel its a personal decision and having fired several channel style sight systems, I would feel more than adequate to defend myself to 7-10m as the weapon is designed. Everything is give an take, screw the handgun and give me a rifle if we are going into ballistic, fps, ammo capacity or terminal wound stats.
I had read everything I could find on the Kimber Ultra. I wanted the Covert II in the worst way. It seems that some run and some don't, based on error net forums and two conversations with gun dealers. They wanted to sell the Kimber but when I asked how many of the Ultras had to be sent back to be reworked they both replied that it does happen fairly often (whatever that ratio is). I researched the Defender and found most people had good luck with the handgun. Right or wrong that is how I based my decision. I really like the little Colt. I am into it about the cost of a Kimber, doesn't look as sexy as the Kimber but I am the only one that sees it anyway.
"I wanted the Covert II in the worst way."
So you don't have the pistol you really wanted...because something you read on the internet?
Yes, I wanted the Kimber because it looks great. That is not a great way to select a handgun for concealed carry, at least I don't think so. I know no one that owns an Ultra so I researched it on the 'net. Yes, based on what I read I selected the Colt over the Kimber. I judge by the comment that using the internet to research purchases is beneath you.
"I judge by the comment that using the internet to research purchases is beneath you."
Let me help you out:
Despite some negative comments about Kimber I read on the internet, my Kimber Ultra CarryII SS with the really cool grips I got from Esmeralda is one of my very favorite pistols. It's dead-on accurate, its never malfuntioned, and--to me-- is a flat-out a beautiful weapon.
And despite some other negative comments I may read tonight on the internet, I'm buying another Kimber on Thursday...because THAT'S WHAT I WANT.

I handled the new Agent today and I found I can pick up the trench sight faster than the factory 3 dot sights on my Defender. I really like this little Colt .Dealer was asking 875 + tax.
