Nikon scopes any good?

I am looking at putting a scope on my Marlin 30-30, and I was looking at Leupold and Nikon. The Nikon is significantly less costly, so I am wondering are they good scopes for the money? I am looking for a 3x9x40 or something similar. What model of Nikon do you reccomend?

I have Leupolds and Nikons. My brightest and clearest scope is a Nikon Monarch.

I've got a 3x9 Monarch and a 3x9 Prostaff. Both good scopes. If cost is a concern, I'd go with the Prostaff (about $150). My Monarch ran me about $300.
