Ive not seen one in person...town i live near has only one gun real gun shop. Ive never seen a G-36 in their shop. Bought a 27 from them and love it. But wondered...how much thinner is it from a 27? I know what ive read...so i know the width, but that doesnt compute compare to actually holding one, heh.;)

Whats the recoil like compared to a 27? The 27 seems very mild to me and is just right, but have always wanted a slim reliable .45.

any info would be apreciated.

The 36 is almost exactly the same size as the 19/23 except the frame is thinner. If I lay my 36 on top of my 23 it's very close. So close that a few holsters I have fit the 36 and 23.

The frame of the 27 is the same thickness as the 23, etc.

The slide of the 36 and the 27 is the same thickness. Where the 36 is thinner is the frame. The frame is the same width as the slide. So over the 27 you save close to an 1/8" in thickness. Doesn't sound like a lot but if feels like it if you carry IWB.

The recoil of the 36 is not a lot different, to me, than a 27. May even feel a little more controllable because the 36 grip is about 1/4" longer than the 27. I much prefer the Pearce Plus zero base plate to the stock plate. Seems to fit me better.

All together if I'm going out the door I am usually more likely to grab the 36 than the 27. My usual preferred carry method is IWB plus the 36 grip seems to fit me better than the 27. I shoot either fine , but the 36 just feels better for carry and shooting.

EDIT TO ADD: The grip as you have read is thinner and it is also deeper front to back by about 1/8". This all doesn't sound like much....1/8" in width, 1/8" in depth, but it makes a big difference in feel in my opinion.

Ah...excellent explaination of the differance. Hmmm, dunno tho...The length of the 27 is perfect for me...And for grip length, my hands are small enough that when i grip the glock. I end up with a full two fingers gripped normally and my pinky catches part of the magazine baseplate and wraps back over and up to catch the side of the baseplate & side of the glocks grip itself. So my grip on the subcompacts are good and solid without the need of base extentions.

Guess i need to just wait it out and see what to by as a second gun, heh.

Again thanks for the info, explained it better than readin it through my books or the Glock annuals, heh.

So if the slide of the 36 and the 27 are the same width then the 36 is quite a bit thinner than a 30 right? I thought I compared the 36 and the 30...well I know I did but I must have missed the slide difference. Been thinking of getting a 36. Should I trade in my 30 or just get a 36 outright???:dunno:

The slide on the 36,27,etc. are just over an inch thick. I measured 1.005". The frame on all these, EXCEPT the 36, is about 1.13 or so. The 36 is right at the same as the slide at 1.005", although it is just a bit thicker at the goofy ATF thumb rests.

The 20, 21, 30 are thicker in the slide. My 21 measures 1.130" on the slide and 1.165" in the frame. I looked at a 30 as the capacity appealed to me, but it was just too thick for my preferred IWB carry.

Trading, selling, or keeping your 30 is your call. If it were me I would keep it and buy the 36. That's just me. I hate to get rid of guns. Hardly ever done it so far. Just keep tossing them in the safe.
