View Full Version : Not lovin' the LEM
At the beginning of the month I picked up a P2000 9mm. I was looking for a variant 1 USP Compact, but found this for a very good price, so I bought it. I've got about l00rds through it and just can't warm up to the LEM trigger. Did any of you LEM shooters fall in love with it right away? For those who didn't, how many rounds before you came around? I wanna give it a fair shake, but so far I don't care for it. Can the P2000's be converted to a different firing mode like the USP's? Looking forward to your input!

I had a P2000 LEM (9mm) It was great for a DAOish triggered gun, but despite feeling better than say, a Glock, I became convinced that I only really like crisp SA style triggers (fired approx 250 rnds, + thousands out of other DAO guns) So, I sold it at last month's gunshow with no regrets. Now, I only carry an HK P7M8 in Summer, and 1911 in the Winter.
Triggers are a very personal thing. Go with whatever is the most comfortable to you. Forget trying to "adapt" to a strange feeling trigger, there are tons of options out there.

Not really.
Stay with it and it does grow on you. It took me about 800 to 1000 rounds to work the trigger and adjust. Use to shooting Glocks which feel different. When you shoot the gun, only move your trigger finger back to reset after the first shot. For some reason when firing the pistol fast I can't tell any difference, when slow the light pull at first is different than say a revolver where it's hard. Took me some time to adjust but believe me once you do, you won't want to go back, stay with it. Tips, take up the slack when slow firing, then return to reset only, try that and see if it makes a difference.

After a few hundred rounds and finding the trigger reset I fell in love with mine.

I hate it too. I have to use the joint of my trigger finger to pull it and I have to focus on the pulling the trigger rather on the sites. The trigger is just too stiff.
I'm glad I got to shoot the P2000SK first, than to put down the cash on a gun I hate.
I have the opposite reaction. I bought a USP compact just because the price was right. I never liked the gun, mostly because of the DA pull and the DA / SA transistion on THIS gun (DA/SA Berettas and Sigs feel just fine to me.) I recently converted to LEM and I really liked the gun now.

Ditto.
100 rounds is not really a fair amount to make a definitive judgement on.
Then again, some folks simply do not like the LEM. Personally, I think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. All three of our HKs have it.
.
The P2000 V2 (I take it that your pistol is V2, 8 pound DAO) can be converted to V1. It´s lighter, 5 pound DAO. Or. it can be made V3, conventional SA/DA with 5/13 pound.
All this just by sending it to HK or buying the parts and making it yourself.
If you are not familiar with the P2000 or the USP, send it to HK  .

Ahhh... according to a post on the HK/USA forum, alledgely from HK Customer Service, the P2000 uses different frames for the LEM and the decocker set-up, and therefore CANNOT be "converted".
And, the LEM is definitely NOT the same as HK's DAO; they are completely different critters.
.
You got me interested on this...
It sounds ridiculous to use two different frames on a same pistol but I saw the thread you mentioned on the HK-USA forums. That´s odd...
I´m sorry for the mis-information.

I tend to hit low when shooting my LEM USP 45. I think it is due to the long take up. I've been practicing trigger control when shooting it- my groups are close to point of aim, but I get low fliers.
The LEM trigger does take some getting used too.
With the LEM you either love it or you hate it.
It might grow on you on the other side, it's a great trigger.
If you can't get used to it, try to trade it!

My P2000SK .40 LEM has ruined me for all my SA pistols.
I purchased this because it is a perfect fit for my small hands and very concealable with the short grip. It was not my first DAO gun - I have a Kahr PM9. I bought the LEM trigger system because I am not as consistent as I would like to be with my Walter P99 AS transition from DA to SA.
I was pretty good with my PM9 but still shot my best with my SA 1911's or High Standard 22lr target pistol.
Now I am by far best with the H&K and suck with my SA's!!!
And yes this pisses me off. So far I have not been able to get back to previous proficiency with my SA pistols - and I am really trying.
Using the P2000SK, right from the start I was very good left to right but usually shot low. After a very short time that is no longer a problem.
For me the LEM system really works.
I got a few more rounds through it on Sunday, but still not taking to it. I also shot a full size M&P in 9mm that impressed me! Gonna try to leave the other handguns at home, for the next range trip and really focus on the HK. I do admit to having some trouble with the trigger reset on the LEM. That and I don't like how it stacks so much before discharging. I'm pretty sure mine is the 8lb version. I've considered ordering the parts and converting it to the 5lb version. I think I'll wait and put a few more rounds through it before deciding what to do. Thanks for the response guys!
I just picked up a USP 40 compact v-7 with lem and I had an hk before with a lem and really didn't like it, but I fired 200 rnds today thru the 40 and I got to say I am LOVIN the lem. It really is pretty nice. Just got to get use to it.

That just doesn't sound like an LEM trigger to me. The LEM has hardly any resistance until the end of the pull. The so-called 8lb. variant 2 felt like 4lbs. to me. I love the feel of the LEM.
That said I'd rather have the Sig DAK trigger without the extra weight of the Sig. Otherwise, give me a H&K LEM all day long.
There are 2 LEM's available. The LEM as found on the USPc has a shorter reset than that on the P2000 LEM, by about 30% shorter I think the reset on the P2000 is 8mm and the USPc is about 3mm. This was noticeable difference for me as I loved my USPc LEM, and could shoot that thing fast. On the other hand the P2000 LEM was awkward and seemed to cause me to stutter because the reset was much further out. YMMV.
I have three LEMs; USPc .45, USPf 9mm, and P2000 9mm.
They all have the same (very short) reset distance.
However, I am familiar with several other LEM-equipped USPc .45s and .40s, one of which is an FFDO pistol.
The FFDO pistol definitely has a longer reset.
Makes you wonder....

Federal Flight Deck Officer... i.e., an armed airline pilot.
When the USPc .40 was chosen as the issue weapon for these guys, HK made them available at a very attractive price to any pilot who produced creds. There are very stringent rules/limitations on the use of the government issue pistol, so many pilots bought one for a "spare" that they could shoot/carry as they pleased. One pal in Dallas who is a Delta captain has three of them.
