WTHR I just saw. They caught the whole thing on camera. Police tazed and had their guns drawn down on the lady.

Indianapolis - Shots fired downtown and screams as by-standers run for cover.

The people fled after the sound of gunshots rang out just before 1:00 a-m in the area of Maryland and Illinois. A large crowd was still downtown because of the Black Expo events.

Police say a woman was attempting to get rid of a handgun, and when officers noticed, she took off running.

"As the officers approached, the person with the firearm fled from officers and while she was running from officers, started firing shots in the air," said Sgt Paul Thompson of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. "According to the police who tried to apprehend her, they thought she was trying to spread the crowd out to facilitate her escape but she ran right in the command center were she was tazed and taken into custody."

In all the commotion, the fleeing crowd ran down two by-standers and one officer was slightly injured. They were treated at the scene

Anyone notice that Chief Spears began to run off and came back to pick up a dropped G22 w/tac light that had fallen to the ground. Now I'm pretty sure the Chief does wear a tac light on his 22 but someone standing with him does and they dropped their duty gun right in the middle of this mess...nice.

I had lunch with one of the GIMPS on Saturday a few hours before he had to report for duty at MurderFest '07. I asked him for a prediction on the number of shootings this year, noting the reported total of three from last year. He made sure I knew that the number of three from last year was just the reported number. :shocked:

Arnis=>martial art from the PI featuring knives and sticks, alone or in combination, or empty hands. Derived from the word for "harness". Martial arts training being discouraged during the Spanish occupation, martial artists would wear a harness and "dance" in religious celebrations and parades. The "dances" were stick and knife moves.

Arnis is good clean fun, and you get to hit people with sticks.:banana:

My teacher was also a purple belt in BJJ under Carlos Machado so we hit each other with sticks and then rassled.:supergrin:

I studied Arnis de Mano for a little while back in the 1980s. Apparently I had a genetic predisposition for it. :supergrin:
The two systems were Largo de Mano and Pikiti Tirsia.

I've noted that some of the Filipino instructors tend to avoid the term "Arnis" nowadays ... I think to distance themselves from the Spanish influence. While I'm unclear on the differences (if any) between Arnis and Kali, I know of some who used to use the terms Arnis and Escrima now refer to what they do as Kali.

I still remember when I got my first balisong (the Filipino knife with the two rotating handles). I asked my dad if he could teach me how to open and close it. He took it from me, flicked it open and closed really, really fast, and then said, "Go practice." :eyebrow: :headscratch: :shakehead:

I did plenty of the two-hours-straight-in-a-horse-stance from 1974 until 1983 when I studied Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu (now called Shorinryu-Shorinkan). I remember that when I started, I could barely walk for the first few weeks on days after the twice-weekly classes.

Plus the knuckle pushups on hard tiles or concrete. That's all very unpleasant for a nine year old fat kid wearing white pajamas. It didn't get any more fun when I was a fat high school kid, also wearing pajamas (albeit larger version). Plus the getting kicked and punched in the head business ... never liked that. Probably never will. Nor the various and sundry impacts to the oh so delicate scrotal region. I definitely do not care for that. There is a limit to what a protective groin cup can accomplish in terms of pain management.

Knuckles, fingertips, back of the hand (mantis hand) push ups do not bug me anymore, but one handed push ups always kick my backside. We were up in Michigan two weekends ago and I fell over on my sihing after doing one handed push ups. I had nothing left.:sad:

Even worse, we do panther push ups (where you just holding yourself up and then hop forward, backward and side to side) and THEN do one handed push ups--Mommy!
