I have an old 1991A1 that has quite a bit of rust on the back strap. Does anyone have any household remedies to get the rust off? It is not pitted, just looks brown when held to the light. I may end up sending it to Robar or finding someone to Duracoat it if nothing else works.
Also, has anyone tried the Ergo XTR grips http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290134991007&rd=1&rd=1
I am looking for a pair of grips and grips screws and these look pretty cool.
A good one-time cleaning with alcohol and regular followup treatments with Breakfree CLP will greatly retard your rust issue. Let the CLP "dry" on your gun then lightly hand buff it later. Regular use keeps my blued Colt Officers rust free and I carry it next to body CC all the time. Works for me. YMMV
P.S. Always shake your CLP good before application to insure good blending of those key ingredients.

I just bought those exact same grips (except in dark earth) from that same dealer. They arrived in just about a week and I very happy. They slimmed the grip a tad and look great. No need to get different screws or attachments; they just slapped right into place. I highly recommend them... though with the caveat I haven't actually shot the gun with them in place yet (if they blow off and take a couple fingers, i'll slowly type that out to give you a heads up).
I to had a little rust colored discoloration on my Springfield... I sprayed breakfree on the area, took a brush to it, added a little more breakfree, wiped down with a patch... and to top it off... an ultra light coat of... well breakfree of course. Seemed to work just dandy.
