My 22s are -

Pistols

- Ruger Mark 11 50 year commemorative edition
- S&W 622

The above pistols are bullseye accurate, meaning, that with the right ammo and optics, they will make a ragged hole out of that X mark all day at 25 yards.

Rifles

- Ruger 10/22 all-weather (stainless with synthetic stock). I changed out some of the internal parts to make the trigger pull lighter and put a scope to it. This is a 10-ring gun at 100 yards.

- Remington 522 Viper. I had a lot of problems with this one. Sent back to the factory in Ilion twice for parts breakage. Shoots just OK but that's because I never worked too much on it.

That's it. Too lazy to takr and post pics.

Revo,

If you don't mind me asking, what brand of trigger parts did you use on your 10/22 and how much was the improvement in the trigger pull?

I will have to reserve this space, a friend drop by in the office and told me to check some items in his SUV. 4 rifles and 2 handguns. He inherited it from his father who died 3 months ago and since he is not into guns he gave it to me.

Remington Scoremaster - 22LR Bolt action (1942-1962)
JC Higgins Model 511-X - 22LR Semi-auto tubular magazine (1955?)
Savage Arms - 410g pump action
Winchester Model 94 - 30-30 Lever action (1955)
Beretta - 380 (1941) Can't remember the model.
Sauer Single action revolver - 22LR

The stock is probably same price as the rifle itself and the barrel is twice the cost. The trigger mechanism is half the cost of the rifle. Receiver na lang ang original.

VK - Before my friend can inherit those, he should be legal to possess FAs. We both go to FFL at the same time with the firearms and the FFL will do the paperwork one by one. One tranfer is about 30 minutes. For handguns I should have a valid Handgun Safety Certificate card (HSC) the rifle does not require HSC. There is a 10-day waiting period before you can take possession of any FAs you buy, assuming ther is no glitch with Dept of Justice (DOJ). After that, you can take the FAs home and not need to worry about renewing of license unlike there which you need to do every 2 years.

Driver's license and utility bills are part of the requirement.

The Remington Scoremaster does not have a serial number and it seems to be made in 1942, that falls under Curio & Relic law so I can take that home legally without registering.

The Beretta looks exactly like this:

Ruger 10/22 and Marlin 795.

The Ruger is currently inside a bullpup stock which I plan to take off. It also has a powercustoms Hammer set. I was looking for a Choate folding stock but couldn't get one here in the Philippines. I really liked the Krinker Plinker but I doubt if anybody could bring it in for me. I got an Airsoft HK G36C which I plan to use as a donor shell to house the Ruger 10/22. Some guys in the US have had success with the conversion - am going to try it tomorrow.

The only addition to the Marlin is an inexpensive bushnell 3-9x scope on see through mounts - not much accessories for this rifle.

hi Dok, mang danny, others...

i was wondering of you have any experience with the butler creek 25rd mags (hot lips...plastic lips).

i've had ftfs on the first 3 rounds.

i usually use high vel solid and hollow points.

is there a way to fix this problem? is it the gun or the mag?

If i load 18 to 20 rds there is no problem. that's my experience...

also, i have experienced the same ftfs with the rotary mag (steel lips ito)...very strange.

i have a butler creek "hot lips" 25 rounder mag. it really has issues. some functions ok, some don't. mine has ftf's if loaded full 25. so i load just 15. they say that it needs breaking in. load it full and have it stay for several days. some suggest spraying some silicone spray.

the best magazine is still the factory box magazine. i use it more than the 25 rounder

tactical innovations has their own 25 rounder. it is made of aluminum and can be dismantled for cleaning. it has an adjustable feeding lips for it to function reliably on different 10/22. not available here and very expensive.

ftf's maybe cause by lots of things. dirty chamber, ammo related, tight chambers specially for aftermarket barrels. if you have ftf's on your box magazine, question is did you dismantled and clean it before? because you have to turn the spring to it's tightest turn before assembling it.

So, what's the most reliable hi-cap 10/22 mags? I was considering the Butler Creek 25 rounders when I get my 10/22. Since they have feeding issues, it's back to the search for a reliable magazine.

Just checked their own magazine and I couldn't believe the price. $64.99!

yes i agree and yes, i've cleaned it inside and out and i've done the spring thing as well, and the problem doesnt happen that often now. bye the way...nice gun you have there.

i went to tactical innov's website and noticed that they focused on a wiggle problem. i'll try to experiment on this idea. have you ever noticed your bc mag wiggle inside the mag well? why does it ftf on the 2nd-5th round of a full mag? tsk tsk tsk...

Dok
08-08-2007, 02:56
BC mags have spring that is flat that uncoils when loaded. sometimes if you load it full, some of the bullets causes drag inside the magazine to the point the spring cannot coil back and you need to tap the magazine so that the bullet will move up and seat on the feeding area.

my BC mags just sits fine inside the mag-well

yun lang nga. but the last time i purchased a demo unit (ruger mark 2), it took same length of time sa stock units nila ang processing. usually papayag din ang may-ari na ibenta pag ok ang unit (walang damages). maybe you can ask for their inventory list. ganun gnagawa ko to make sure may naiwan pa sila na unit

Original Ruger magazines are the most reliable. I have two steel lips 10 round magazines. Pag madumi na sumasablay na rin after about 300 rounds. Anything above 10 rounds capacity is illegal here in California so I won't comment on these.

That has a good review here in the US, but not much option on upgrade. For PHP12.5k, I say go for it. 10/22 started at 8k and I should have gotten one then, the price did not even increase gradually it jumped to 22k.

Sir 3K,

I got a 795 during a gun show for less than 9k. That time I was bent on getting an Armscor AK clone - the one with the folding stock which was selling for about 12k that time. I was about to pay deposit for it when I came across the 795, I found the price irresistible enough that I went home and researched on it. Went back to the gun show the following day for the Marlin.

The rifle offers great value for the price - US made, really light, and it had some features which were not on the base model Ruger 10/22- 1. Bolt hold open on last shot. 2. More convenient and faster bolt release- using your trigger finger (You needed both hands to release the 10/22's bolt). 3. The base model already came with a black synthetic stock. 4. It came with a safety lock (hmmm, haven't used it though). 5. Priced lower than the local rimfires. The bugger's pretty accurate too, my friends always take turns shooting at bottle caps on the range. I mounted an inexpensive Bushnell 3-9x30 scope on it with see through mounts - my friends just wouldn't leave the Marlin alone - I'd end up going to another bay with my Ruger 10/22. Two of my friends eventually got 795's (they were initially thinking of getting the 10/22).

Now for the downside:
1. You don't really get much accessories made for the 795, only the universal stuff like scopes, slings and extra nickel plated magazines - I ordered a couple of them from the US prior to 9-11, one online dealer had some 15 round after market mags but he didn't recommend them. One Armscor semi-auto uses a magazine which looks really similar.
2. My Marlin's magazine catch (magazine release) seemed to malfunction after a few months - magazines would suddenly drop. It turns out the magazine catch was loose- probably broken, I used a rubber band to keep the thing compressed and didn't have any problems again for some 5 years until recently - I think I need to replace the rubber band I used.

is the marlin's mag protruded compared to the ruger's mag when installed?

i went to mcs around lunch time and gently cradled a ruger 10/22. tom will go to sm moa to slowly caress a marlin 795 and feel the difference.

Sir 3K,

The Marlin's magazine protrudes from the stock just like most rifles unlike the 10/22's factory rotary magazine which fits flush. The Ruger is wider than the Marlin, so more to caress

only marlin i ever had was a model 60sb. that is their cheapest, i got it for 9k.

it was very accurate, bagged me many rats. with a cheapo tasco 3-9x32 scope, i could hit a bainte y sinko from 21 yards all day.

the micro groove barrel really is accurate, how much moreso than a conventional one, i dunno.

the trigger mechanism can not be adjusted, the pull was decent for a cheap gun. the blowback action worked ok, but it failed approximates once every 100 rounds, not really the fault of action but of faulty ammo, the cheap local ones, while accurate, sometimes bulge so much that the extractors just give up. once that happens you are forced to pry it off with something or push it out with a rod.

but overall, i had more fun with my .22 than all of my other big bore handguns combined.

I used an inexpensive Bushnell 3-9X30 scope, can't remember what model, it cost me only about US$30-35 if I am not mistaken. Ordered it along with some rifle stuff from my "suking" online dealer from the US before 9-11. I was at Hahn Manila last week and saw some Bushnell rifle scopes, the fixed 4x40 was priced at P5,300 less 30% and the 3-9x40 was selling for P5,800 less 30%.

Dok, ano ba magandang bala para sa 10/22?

So far a "stock" 10/22 would digest any ammo from armscor to remington thunderbolts/cyclone. Accuracy wise, ok naman yung both mentioned. Remington thunderbolts and cyclone are cheap at 130 to 145 pesos per box. they are rated as high velocity. drawback-very dirty ammo. Have not tried high end ones like eley, cci and others for accuracy. Mahal kasi. It cost 2x or 3x more than mentioned above. for more power, try using "stinger" from cci. it is slightly longer than the standard 22lr. it is safe to use on the 10/22 stock barrel but not advisable on bull barrel with tight chambers or any aftermarket barrels. accuracy-not so good, it is rated as hyper- velocity.

If you plan to change the barrel, you have to experiment or try different ammo the barrel likes. some barrel have tight chambers which can cause feeding problems or extraction problems. one example is my previous butler creek carbon fiber barrel.

keep it stock first and try it.

well, it holds true with what the people at rimfirecentral says about this scope. a lot of leupold lovers at first has doubts about this scope but is really worth the money. the glass is very clear and bright even at the highest magnification. it is already multi-coated lens. it is China made but follows a US specifications under a US brand. let's just say it is a class A product.

i have a BSA air rifle scope, it is clear at 2-5X but at 7X, it is less clear and less brighter.

My firearms instructor here in Canada mounts the same expensive 3-9 x 40 that he has on his Tikka hunting rifle on his Remington 22 bolt action. He told the class that he doesn't have to transition to another type of scope when using both rifles.

He shoots gophers with his Remington 22 lr rifle. Haven't looked through a 3-0 x 40 scope, but a lot of people say it's the best scope for hunting.

this weaver rail came with my Ruger Mark 3. i swapped it with the Mark 2 on the picture.

Locally, i saw the catalog of Tony Pascual and they have a rail for ruger mark 2/3 pistols. Give it a try.

Outside, rimfiresports.com has one or order directly from ruger.

Cleaning?? never heard of them needing cleaning :) kidding aside, all you need is a plastic/wooden mallet to separate the upper from the lower. Once you understand how it works, its pretty simple really

He He. Twin Pines has new stocks of Mark 3 pistols.
Yes, initially medyo hirap disassemble but later you will find it easy. Cebuboy is right. You need a rubber mallet to remove the barrel-receiver assembly from the frame but usually loosens up as you go on. It is like a glock, you don't need frequent cleaning:supergrin::thumbsup:

Sorry, Paul. Anything but this rifle. Three weeks ago my brother and I went to PB Dionisio. We were shooting .22 lr casings at 25 yards with this rifle using Armscor ammo. You read it right: .22 lr casings at 25 yards.

With a 3-9 scope we could barely make out the casings, but we still knocked down 9 of ten on the average.

Check the reviews and comments on the web. Nothing but raves on this rifle.

Mao,
The bipod is actually for airsoft rifles and doesn't appear to be too sturdy. For bench shooting it will do the job but for field work I doubt it will hold up for long. I bought it for Php1,500 at a hobby shop at the 4/f of the Makati Cinema Square. You might consider a Harris clone, from Outers, I think. It sells for only around USD40.00.

Mao,

I have no idea where to buy a real bipod here in Metro Manila. Maybe the others can help.

By the way, I'm not sure installing a bipod on your rifle is a good idea. I may be wrong, but the stock configuration of your Anschutz is I think suited for standing competition shooting. I believe the extra stock mass at the magazine well area is used to prop the support hand in a standing position. My opinion lang.

22lr or 22wmr?
ano mas maganda?

It depends Sir kung saan gagamitin. Kung plinking and just have fun, go with .22lr. It can be used for small game hunting also. Cheap ammo. Flat trajectory=50 yards max. Beyond that it drops na.

.22wmr, more power but with a flat trajectory of just over 75 yards. a little difference lang compared to 22 lr. More costly ammo

.17hmr is the best rimfire round so far with a flat trajectory of 100 yards! parang scaled down .223 round. so far have not seen it here sa atin (ammo and FA)

have not handled .22wmr, but if i were to choose i'll go with .17hmr than .22 wmr if available na dito.

Galing ng barrel nito parang sa KG-9. Compensator ba yan or just for aesthetics?

question:

pardon my ignorance. a .22barrel has an inner and outer dimension. ALL .22 (i guess) has the same inner barrel diameter while the outer dimension might vary in diameter.

am i right on this?

Panay premium parts yang binubuo nyong Ruger. Pati pins
If you don't mind, may i know kung anong barrel?

This is the barrel i like.

By Clark from Lothar Walther blank. Mahal lang kaya i went with Green Mountain.

Good luck on your build.

Kidd's barrels are good. What i like about the Clark midweight barrel is the smaller diameter. Looks more like an Annie ;)

3kings, yes you are right. outer diameter is the one that differs.

Batangueno, never realized it would sell that fast, last time i checked there were 25 units.

Judge, that's nice:thumbsup:
