View Full Version : loctite for mepro sight?
guys, meprolight specs tells us 2 use a loctite 609 on the thread of the front sight, what other loctite # can we use aside from this 609? tnx
not sure of the #'s but I have used blue, red, and green
No problems from any othe them.
Mike
I think 609 might be blue (medium strength). I use non Loctite brand threadlocker (just what I grabbed from the auto parts store) but go with red (high strength). It's overkill but then again I don't want my front sight coming loose.
262 (red) came with my new G20 Meps.

609 is red.
I tried 262 on the meps on my G17 and couldn't get it to set up. The 609 worked like a charm. As always your results may very.
I did the research on this a while ago. 609 is a bonding agent, with a 3000 lb per square inch strength, which is used to 'glue' two metal pieces together. Its actually designed to seal a round object into a round hole and hold it there. The idea is it fills the space between the sight lug and the hole in the slide. Somemtimes sights will have a bit of movement even if the bolt is tight and thread locked. 262 which is what I use is a high strength thread lock which is designed to be perminant but can be removed with heat. If you use 262 and put a little bit between the lug of the sight and the hole in the slide as well as a tiny drop on the threads and tighten the sight up snug. Its very important to let the 262 cure for a few days as well. If you do that you wont have a problem.
EDIT: UFI 242 is medium strength thread lock and the green stuff (cant remember the number) is medium strength thread lock that is designed to be put on after the bolt has been installed.
