View Full Version : Why is a G30 so special to it's owners.

People talk about this gun or that one, and why they like one better than another, etc.. For instance I like my G19 and carry it almost daily. I like my G26 for it's intended purpose, and even the Smith 638 when I can't carry a real gun. But I like the 19, more than the other two.

However, most of you G30 owners, seem go go far beyond the "I like my gun" thingie. It is hard to ignore the pure admiration in some of your writing, when you are dealing with your G30's. My gosh, it's almost like you are talking about one of your kids.

Please explain why. I feel like I'm missing out on something.

It is a 3 7/8" bbl gun shooting a cartridge designed for a 5" bbl, which "SHOULD" substantually slow velosity while increasing recoil. It has a thicker than normal grip and slide, yet you seem to hold it in very high esteem. There are just too many of you to ignore!

What's going on here?? :)

Thanks...gK

I also own a G19 and 26. My strongest suggestion to you, is to go out and shoot the G30. When and if you do this, you will see there is no comparison. Even though the G30 has a 3 7/8 Bll., recoil is hardly felt. The G30 is a compact fiream, making it just a little smaller than the G19, and just a little bigger than the G26. Therefore you can conceal the weapon like others. Yes the gun is thicker than most. Myself, I have small hands and find no problem shooting the weapon with both or single handed. Now without starting a caliber war, the G30 is shooting a 230gr. bullet with the circumference of .451. The 9mm has a circumference of .355 with a bullet weight of tops 147 gr. My personal choice is bigger is better. I'm not saying that the 45 is better than the 9mm, however, I am saying my choice is the 45. I hope this answered your question.

The G30 is just the most accurate handgun I've ever owned or shot and there have been many. And for being 45cal it has almost no muzzle flip, just a little push in the palm of my hand. And I'm sorry but I don't think the grip is all that fat, fits my had like a glove. I carry it everyday 24/7 and it conceals very well. I used to carry nothing but HK P7M8's and P7M13's and they are great, but I don't carry anything but my G30 now. If you haven't shot a G30, do and you will understand why.:)

You just have to shoot it to believe it. I own many Glocks, including a G19 and G26. The G30 gets the call for daily carry. It's been my favorite since May 1997. I subscribe to the "Bigger Holes Cause Bigger Leaks" theory.

What the others said. I have owned every Glock sold in the US except for the 35 (and not all of the comped models), and the 30 is by far the best shooter. As I said in another thread, I think it is by far the most accurate. The minute I picked one up after they were introduced I knew it was the one, and my range time proved it out.

I don’t know. I think it’s the 10+1 .45ACP in a very small package. Yeah, its thick, but seriously it hides as well as a g19. (even better with the 9 round mag)

My g30 has converted many people who thought they didn’t like glocks, into new glock owners.

With firearms (and just about everything else in life) you make trade-offs. It's just amazing that you can have a pistol that is the size of the 30, accurate, reliable, and holds 11 rounds of the venerable .45acp cartridge.

And then you shoot it and you're amazed by how little recoil/muzzle flip there is.

It's a good thing. :)

What they've all said. I've shot almost all the Glock models out there, and the 19 is great if you're a 9mm fan (I carried one for a month or two) but the G30 is top of the crowd for me. Shoot one, you'll see. :)

I own six Glocks and must say that my G30 is far and away the finest of the lot. The accuracy of the weapon is amazing and for a 45 cal it shoots just as easy as any of my 9 milis do. I have average to small size hands and find the G30 sits oh so well in my grip. I cannot say enough good things about the G30 as it is definitely in a class all its own. My guess is that if you try it, you'll buy it. I know I did.

Q:"Why is a G30 so special to it's owners???"

A:Because the G30 is my first Glock??? ;)

Really though, here goes:

>>I have much respect for the .45 (personal experience + Dad's and Uncle's war stories);

>>Glock's reputation for reliability and accuracy (a given!);

>>10+1 capacity is nothing to laugh at and quite reassuring;

>>And for the BONUSES: The G30 is incredibly light (for a big Dawg caliber) and compact enough to conceal (when I can);

On the GRIP situation, I had initially handled the G36 and was good to go with it. Then I finally found a G30 to try out and to my delight it felt almost perfect---so this G30 was it!

BTW, my next Glock will be....the 19 :)
and the 27 and the.....

I actually prefer the 21 over my 30, but the 30 itself is a great gun. Stable and accurate, I can't think of anything even slightly detrimental to say about it.

I'll chime in here although I do not yet have complete ownership of my brand new G30. It sits at the shop, under lock and key, waiting to be picked up and added to my inventory. Nonetheless, I did buy one. I *almost* got a G19 instead but I fell head over heels for the G30. Why?

1. The G30 restored my faith in the fact that I could shoot the .45 ACP accurately. I spent much time after my debacle with my old Para-Ord P13.45 thinking the .45 was just "too much gun" for me. After searching, and generally pondering many questions for far too long, I finally rented a G30 and I was stone-cold in love. It was a *****cat to shoot in the recoil department. *And* this gun made me look like I know what I am doing, accuracy wise!

2. Yes, the grip is big. But *believe me* you won't know whether the G30 is for you or not until you shoot it. I was majorly paranoid of the whole grip issue. Then I rented one and it just worked. The other thing to bear in mind is the large back-strap will help dissapate recoil very well.

3. The G30 performs better than it has any right to. Why? Hell, Glock just makes amazing guns I suppose. To only have a 3 7/8" barrel, this thing shoots like a target pistol. It carries like it's cousin (the G19), it holds 10 rounds of some potent ammo, and like all it's siblings it is the pinnacle of ease in maintenance.

I'm very happy to have my new G30. Get one, try one, rent one. You will see what all the hub-bub is about. I promise.

Cheers;c

I became an ardent fan of the G-30 after carrying a Colt .45 for eleven long years in NYC. I carried a whole assortment of others as back-ups and primaries through 29 1/2 years and the two best were a S&W M-13 ,3inch and the Glock 21. The G-21 was just a little too long in the grip to hide all the time in Tampa. I once fantasized about cutting the 21's grips by about 3/4 inch. When the G-30 appeared, it felt like someone I knew in a previous life. For me, and I must stress for me, it shoots superbly. Now I keep a G-27 in the safe for a back-up and always have my 30 with me.

I bought a G19 and was so impressed with Glock as whole I decided I wanted to make bigger holes should the need arise. When I got the 30 (carry gun) I immediately felt as though it was a perfect fit to my hands (now dressed in Agrip velvet).

I had originally felt I might not be able to handle the "Big 'un", but I was accurate (the gun wasn't - I want credit for my tight patterns).

I all honesty, I shoot better with my G19, but I have much more peace of mind with my 30. And just to be clear, not because I think the 9mm is inferior.

Since getting it, I have babied the hell out of it. Sports the AGrip, extended slide stop lever (part# 27), extended slide lock (part #21), and she has a new 3.5# connector (part #24).

On the way are some Ashley Big Dots (24/7).

Experience-wise, I am on the other end of the spectrum from most G30 shooters. I have only had the gun for a week and have only put 150 rounds or so thru it. Thing is, I make my living as a quality control type of person and when I shot the G30, I immediately detected the smoothness, accuracy and consistancy of it. Sometimes, you can quickly ascertain if a product is good or poor.

I own the Glock models: 21, 30, 19, 23, 26, & 27. My favorite is still the G30 because it is the most comfortable to shoot and very accurate. Plus it gives you at least 10 rounds of .45 ACP (9+1).

I am currently carrying my G27, because it is easier to conceal. But it just doesn't feel like the 30. Of course I have personally put over 15,000 rounds through my G30 and only about 400 through my G27.

All I can say is, try the G30 and you'll probably like it too.

Hope this helps.

About three years ago, folks around here started ranting and raving about the G30 so many bought them.

But years later, I suspect that they have traded them off for thinner more concealable Glocks like the G19/23/32 or the smaller mini-Glocks like the G26/27/33.I prefer the G32 and G33 for CCW. So I sold my G30 privately and rolled the cash into the G32.

The G30 a nice gun but I just prefer the full sized grip of my G21.

At 35 and 50 yards, you need the G21 to effective group your shots.

Duncan ... I agree with your thinking and there are times I wish I had something a little smaller. But for now I am happy with my 30.

About the accuracy, I only need something that's extremely accurate in the 25 FOOT or less catagory. Mine is purely for SELF Defense. If I encounter someone at the distance you desribe, and they are unarmed, I hope I can avoid the situation without firing.

You just have to try one out to see what all the buzz is about. I traded in my G33 for one last summer. At first I wasn't sure. Until I passed 1500 rounds. It just gets better and better. I love mine and carry it almost all the time. Besides it's the Big Dawg. ST

Talk is cheap. Everyone has their own preferences in firearms and that's how it should be. You should find someone to loan you their G-30 for a day, take it to your local range and find out for your self why this gun is so special.

If you find out you like it, go with your instincts. The science of ballistics, concealment and CQB will be there in the G-30 if it feels right in your hand.

Good luck!

first here's what I've had...

Taurus 605 .357 mag snub w/ concealed hammer...horrible trigger pull and ooouuuccchhh hand after shooting magnum loads...

Springfield Ultra Compact .45 acp w/ nite sights...would have been "THE WEAPON" except the timing was off on the entire weapon and out of 700 hundred rounds in 3 weeks with good cleaning and lube (Winchester, Speer Lawman, S & B...FMJ & JHP) I had in excess of 50 feeding, extraction, and ejection problmes!!!

What I currently have...

Glock 30 w/ nite sights...been out to the range once...shot 100 Wolf without a hiccup...the cheapest I can get and no problem...and Winchester Silvertip...no problem...my favorite and most trustworthy

Kimber Pro Shadow LE II...nice overall 1911 45 except...that damn firing pin block and grip safety combo...I can't always depress the grip safety enough to lift the firing pin block...sear has a bad burr...4 feeding malfunctions in 150 rounds of PMC and Speer Lawman FMJ...not such a good start for a product from a company with a reputation that good!!!

I'm not sure I'm going to keep this particular Kimber...I'm going to have to spend extra $$$ to get it working smooth. I may as well trade in on a Kimber Pro CDP Series 1 (no firing pin block) or a Springfield Loaded Operator...best overall combination for home defense, night time usage in dark, and good full size range gun

I use to shoot the G27 for ccw and I was a one pistol person ( all the others went to the safe.), I've put over 10,500 rounds through the little G27 and loved every minute of it, it was very accurate, and easy to control. I then developed problems with my hand ( not related to shooting at all ) and had to find a pistol which did not snap as much. After shooting several other Glocks I ended up getting a G30. The G30 was the answer to the felt recoil on my hand and it was also very accurate. I've got several pistols and revolvers (alot), and I wanted to shoot the largest caliber I could with the recoil that I could stand to take for 400-500 rounds at a shoot. The G30 now has over 5,800 rouds through it. If I had all of my pistols on the table and if poo poo was to hit the fan, then the G30 would come up first and formost. It's a big caliber but the Glock handles it like a much smaller caliber. Try it you will like it...... ;f

My baby, I mean my G-30, is more accurate than my G-17. I agree with everybody else - the lack of recoil and muzzle flip is amazing for such a small gun in such a large caliber.

For anyone who is reading these comments about the G30...Listen UP!!!

I can't begin to tell you that the G30 is really Glock's finest offering! It is simply amazing how accurate and comfortable it is to shoot!!!

It has very little recoil for such a small lightweight pistol..it is really amazing- You GOTTA try one for yourself.

I bought a G30 after reading so many great things about this pistol from GlockTalk- I went to the range and honestly...I gotta tell you I was MEGA IMPRESSED!! It shoots so softly for a .45 and in such a compact package. I've shot hundreds of rounds so far and not a burp, hiccup, sneeze or fart from the thing! It feeds like a hungry dawg and keeps wanting more and more. No problems with hollowpoints, ball, expensive ammo, cheap ammo- (Heck I may try putting a few stones in it to see it fire them!) ;)

Honestly, without the hype crap- you have to try one. They are powerful pistols that pack-a-punch:

+one of the lightest .45s available
+holds 10+1 in the mag
+goes from a G19 size pistol to a G26 size pistol with the quick swap of the two different mags (9 rd. and 10 rd)
+conceals like my old G26
+kicks less than most full size 1911 .45s
+eats anything and everything! Semi-wad cutters, old ammo, new ammo, cheap, expensive, inbetween
+accepts full size G21 mag if needed
+And it's a .45 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on! It honestly doesn't get better than this!

There is a reason so many people love this pistol. If you need more convincing contact me I'll tell ya straight up.
Don't believe me hype either-try one and just like me you'll be like, "Wow....!"

I purchased a G27(first handgun ever shot), a firecracker of recoil. Shot a Kel-tec 9, and a ruger p85 or 95 not sure which.

Ruger sloppy slide syndrome.

Kel-tec nuff said. I don't know how you would be able the shoot a BG anywhere above the knees, with the trigger work on that paperweight. I know it's better than throw rocks, but jeez o' Petes

Smallest bestest .45 acp.

Even though the 27 kicked so hard, I still had a notion that GLOCK was awesome. Never shot the thirty picked it up once. Pinched pennies for 6+ months.

01/02/2003 Happy New Year to me.

Top 10 reasons the G30 is special:

10) They use them in the movies
9) indestructable - it will shoot anything you put in it
8) concealable with only moderate effort
7) negligible recoil and muzzel flip
6) easy to clean
5) easy to repair (if you ever have to)
4) 10+1
3) 45 cal
2) ACCURATE

And the number 1 reason G30's are so special:

1) They're fun to shoot!

Now if I could just convince my wife to quit

Mr. Duncan, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on needing a G21 to be effective at 35-50 yards. Well, here goes:

Had a 21, liked it but sold it (bad move, I know); had a 27 (with .357 barrel & LoneWolf 9mm barrel) but sold it (no regrets, Sig P239 replaced it), got a Glock 30 and never looked back. It is a shooter and a keeper!

The Meprolight night sights and the Sidearmor make for a nice setup. It stays stoked with Corbon's Pow R' Ball for any serious social work that may present but it handles it all with ease. I prefer the nine-rounder mag for CCW.

Yesterday at church a friend of mine suggested we take our wives out to lunch and then stop at the range for some shooting. I had been at the range on Saturday for a pleasant shooting session. The wife and I had put 800 rounds through tha G30. Had a bouket load of brass, but nothing loaded. Cranked up the Dillon 550 and cranked out 500 rounds, left for the restaurant and then to the range. We fired at metal targets for a while and then decided to put it on paper. At 50 yards, off hand through the Glock 30 with over 1,000 rounds through it without cleaning, I was shooting 6" groups.

Why do I love it, let me count they reasons
It fits my hand like my most comfortable pair of boots
It takes abouse and keeps on shooting
It ALWAYS does its job, even when I don't do mine
It still works great even if I don't give it a bath
It loves fast food (fodder from a Dillon 550}
It even does well with the Wally World White box TV dinner
It savors meticulously made hand loads
If I don't take it out for a while, it is always ready when I do
If I play with other Glocks, it still performs perfectly when I pick it up

Yes, I have grown attached to my G30. If I had to have only one pistol, yep you got it, I would have th GLOCK 30!

I love 1911's and Sigs, and have spent way too much money on them. However, if you lift my shirt on any given day, what you will find under there is a Glock 30. It's the only Glock I own. It's the only gun I carry (okay, but the Kel-Tec P32 in my pocket really doesn't count). Why? I dunno, it just feels right. I shoots right. There's something very comforting about carrying 10 rounds of .45 and 9 more in the spare magazine.;a

I imagine there is something of an intimidation factor, too, when you're staring down the wrong end of a 30. The barrel has to look like a water pipe, compared to other calibers. I'm sure the BG hates to think what might come out that hole...

there is just something about my 30 that i love. i had a brand spanking new 23 with meprolight night sites, 3.5 polished trigger, extended slide lock, 3 mags. a trooper buddy of mine had a stock bare bones 30 with two mags that he wanted to trade me for my 23. well i didnt want to do it because i had a good bit of aftermarket money in my 23 and i didnt see the point of having to spend it all over again on the 30. well all it took was shooting the first 10 rounds out of that 30 and i took it right there on the spot. i was laughing the other day when i left my 30 and my new h&k usp 45 in the truck. i made the comment if they got my h&k i would be pissed but if the got my 30 i would be forced to cry and then kill them.
there is just something about my 30 that i love ;3 maybe its just big boys love big toys??
