Recently ordered Federal 230 +p HST for Glock 36 and have put several mags through it with no problems. Will continued use of +p ammo cause any problems with the 36? Please advise.

Thanks

I hope it is O.K. because I just bought a G36 myself, and I am breaking it in this weekend. I will be shooting 200+ rounds of WWB and then about 150 rounds of the 200 I ordered of the Federal Tactical HST 230gr. +P. I was going to use that round as my carry round. If that is not acceptable to shoot in a G36, then I have about $100 worth in ammo to sell. Also, I can't find the non +P stuff anywhere online...it's all back-ordered.

What does everyone think??

By the way, this is my first Glock and my first post on this forum. Before this I have only owned revolvers and sig's.

Don't know about the +p stuff, but be careful with the WWB, see my post about the Ka-Boomed 36............

Kahunab14,

I have put several mags through mine without any problems, but was just making sure this was ok to do on a long term basis. This is also my carry round, I ordered from Streichers and they had the +p and non +p stuff in stock. The +p stuff definately has some punch to it!

WRQSUX,

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hope you get things straightened out. Think I will avoid WWB ammo. Usually shoot Blazer for practice rounds.

If you use +P ammo exclusively, you might wear out your gun a little sooner than you would with standard pressure. But if you can afford all the +P ammo it would take to wear it out, you can afford to replace it.

+P HST is what I use for carry ammo. I've never had a problem with it.

But keep in mind ALL manufacturers crank out the occasional bad round. Don't knock a brand because of one bad experience, people have had bad experiences with every brand.

First, I didn't tell him not to use it, just be careful. Second if it was just me with the problem, I would not have said anything. I have seen a few reports here on Glock Talk and a few others on the internet about KB'd guns using WWB. All the stories seem fairly recent, its as if there might be a prob with quality control, I don't know. I personaly have fired thousands of rounds of WWB 9mm and 45 with out a problem, until that last one. And it may not even have been the ammo for all I know. Just be careful cause KB's suck bad even when you don't get hurt. (was my first and I hope my last)

I took the advice and bought a case of remington instead. $115.00 for 500 rds.

I went to the range and fired 250 rounds...Glock Perfection. No problems whatsoever.

The gun is way more accurate than I am. Very happy with my purchase!

Glad to hear you had no troubles, that 36 is a pleasure to shoot aint it?

It really is. But you know it is no slouch in the recoil department.

Until now I had only shot .22's and 9mm's. When I first started shooting the G36 I thought the recoil wasn't that bad, probably because perceived recoil is pretty low for a .45 with those dimensions. But when I picked up my Sig 226 9mm with the nice Hogue grips, I realized how much recoil the G36 really has. That said, very little recoil for a .45 with those dimensions.

But, shooting pleasure is not what the G36 is about. It is a defensive pistol meant to be small enough to carry 24/7 and shootable enough to make all 7 rounds go where you want....and it does very well at that.

Now, if I could just stop flinching every few rounds I could put them all in the center at 7 yards! (the first shot of every mag seems to find it's way to the bullseye quite effortlessly, I have to concentrate on not anticipating the shot on subsiquent shots in order to do the same)

Read you manual.

Glocks are rated to safely handle any SAAMI spec ammo.

+P Ammo made by a SAAMI member company (most of the big ones) is fine to shoot in your Glock 36.

The Federal 230 HST +P ran good in my Glock 36. It is a heck of a good load. I like the 230 Hydra Shok as well.

Thanks for the info. HST 230 +p is my carry round of choice!

I have shot the Federal tactical +P and the HST +P and the
speer +P. All worked perfectly.
But, it was a little bit of a handful for me to handle.
I went back to standard pressure gold dots.

John!
