View Full Version : Archery forum
Seems that there are a lot of outdoor folks around here. Let's hear it for an archery forum. No particular brand or style of archery. Just a general archery forum.
I am sure we could come up with a clever name like Arrow Alley or something.
Let's hear it from the archers out there.
Sign me up. I like 'em all: primitive, traditional, compound, and even the horizontal compounds.

I will shoot any bow that I can get my hands on... right or left handed.

I'm down to talk some archery
I'm definitely down to do some bow.
I've wanted to get into bow for years; done so much with shooting, I just never got around to it and really regret it.
This is exactly the kind of forum I was hoping to find, as I only know the bare basics and am on hot standby to soak up all the pertinent info you guys'll lay on me.

Shoot these more than my Glocks, or any other guns. It's quieter, cheaper, and I can do it in my big city backyard.

BrokenArrow - nice collection.
I am looking for another recurve myself and like the bottom 2 on the rack.
Give us the run down of what's what.

Top is a Samick traditional Korean bow (SKB). About 50 inches, Rosewood riser, Maple lams under black glass. An excellent shooter when ya get the hang of it - fast, smooth, quiet.
Next is a Martin Dreamcatcher. 60 inches, Bubinga/Shedua riser, Red Elm lams under Shedua and clear glass.
Under that is an old Herter's Hunter bow from the 60s. 63 1/2 inches, Rosewood riser, Maple lams under green glass.
Next is a Martin Savanah. 62 inches, Bubinga/Maple riser, Bubinga lams under Zebrawood and clear glass.
Bottom is a custom made Matlock Predator X3. 62 inches, Purpleheart riser (South American hardwwod, very hard/dense, really is purple)Bamboo limbs under clear glass.

Me and my Mathews are in.
Been bow hunting for about ten years. I can honestly say I jumped in to it with both feet and never looked back. I have not shot a fur bearing animal with a fire arm since. Just something about being able to get within 20-30 yrds. of a white-tail undetected that gets me going.
An archery forum would be a welcome addition.

Well, I think it is a good idea to have a bowhunting forum. Mod's hold on to your butt's, cause this subject can get like "which caliber is best" forums.
I am strickly recurve and long bow, for about 45/46 years, and NO interest what soever in compounds, or the gadgets that go with them, but have no desire to change a man, or condemn him for what he chooes to shoot. PLUS, there are the compound boys that don't give a hoot and a holler about the stick bows, or any form of traditional archery.
In fact, traditional archery is probably going to be far and away out numbered, compared to the modern tech shooting equipment......
So, If we can all live and let live, and just stick to "here is what I do, and what I did," OH yeah, hey that's great guy, Stick to "hunting", not equipment wars and bashing, and not have one long constant debate, I think it would be great.
Hey, I can war as good as the next guy, but there is no fun in it... (usually).
You ask us for our two cents....... ;)

I'm in...
count me in also but I'm member on the archery forum and former member on the snoobish trad-gang website, who was boot off due to my opinions on hunting didn't match theirs ;(
Both of these sites have a VAST crowd of individuals in various styles, levels and shape, dealing exclusively with archery.
http://tradgang.com/
http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/
Good discussions for the most part also ;)
I can't imagine GT getting to the same level as either one of the these 2 and nor do I think we need "yet another" forum. Every day/week/month , a new forum pops up on GT. This site has more forums than a typical website and get's quite distracting.

What the heck did you do to get kicked off!? Most of the Tradgang members are great people, but are hardcore about archery and many don't care for compounds, let alone firearms. A few are into smokepoles (black powder) but they almost talk about it with shame. You didn't get into a firearms debate, did you?!
I used to frequent Tradgang, but went to the darkside and got a compound. I like stickbows, but I like the results from the compound better. I feel that I will eventually go back to a stick bow, but it will be primitive (no glass). I sold my Chek-Mate and have built self-bows in the past.
I agree that there will be much more info on the other sites, but for a Glocktalk member that wants to ask a simple archery question, they could do it here, rather than join one of the other sites.
The leatherwall is good for traditional too. And bowsite for bows with training wheels.

Primitive Archer and Paleo Planet are good for primitive archery.

If nothing else, maybe we'll get more pics from BrokenArrow!

Easy their was a heated argument about WHA ( world hunting association ) and I posted a one single line sentence of why it's such a bad thing and I found my login cancel & the chicken **** moderators won't respond to my email as to why my login was cancel.
never been back and dont care so much as to to back.
AT on the other hand is a mixed crowd that have various styles of archery with good tips and pointers. they only negative are the heated debates over "cross-bows" is really cheating debates ;(

I like bowsite.com for the same reason. Wide variety of people there with various opinions, but there are always some BS posts and comments. I don't know much about WHA, but cancelling your login isn't right.
As far as crossbows, I view them as horizontal compounds. They don't bother me one bit. The few advantages they have are easily outweighed by their downsides IMHO.
Hunters and shooters are their own worst enemies. Instead of solidarity, back stabbing and oneupmanship seems to be rule for some.
