Ok, in the past fundraisers seemed to mostly surface when GT would start having stability issues, obviously resulting in unplanned downtime.
What are the plans for the membership funding towards infrastructure? Will the fees paid upgrade the cricital components necessary for uptime? Will funds be used for capacity planning as the site seems to have consistent growth?
I know extra "features" will be welcomed by some, but I would think that more would be concerned with site stability versus the extra features.

I'd be very disappointed if there is more downtime after the "update."
You can take this how you want but dropping $75 on promises seems kind of foolish on my part in retrospect. I hope to see it put to good use in due time.

Yes, I think GlockTalk should observe the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, post compliance with all OSHA regulations, give a Patriot Act Compliance statement, post all MSDSs in PDF format at the top of each for users to review, and while Eric is at it, I'd appreciate some discounts on my car insurance
Seriously, buyers remorse after donating to a community we frequent for fun?
I'm glad I paid for my cheeseburger today, and if I do not get it Tuesday, no biggie.
Oh yea ... a 401 plan would be nice too, Eric :animlol: :animlol:
I'm not worried about how my membership funds will be used, I trust the guy running the joint ... and hope he heals completely and quickly.

Good grief. If you want the money back, say the word. If my promises don't mean anything after running this place ten years, then, well I am not going to say what I would like to say, but I am damned disappointed in your post.
Will I maintain a ledger and open it for people like you, who think they have a right to question how I run things? No. Hell no. I haven't put all of this time, effort and aggravation to set people up for a screwing now.
As I said in another post, I ordered more than 14k worth of equipment last Friday. The site will be in good shape when it is installed, but can I guarantee that there will be no more downtime? What do you think? Things get old, things break. When they do, I fix them. Sometimes, like now, I replace them before they get a chance to break.
Stuff like this just discourages the hell out of me. Eric

Look, I am the guy that spent eighteen hours one Thanksgiving repairing a busted database server. I am the guy that has made it a point of pride for a decade to have the best uptime of any site like this around and I would stack my site's stats against any comparable message board community online. I have endured a hell of a lot of stress and hardship to keep this place open. I work damned hard to make this the best site I can, with the resources available. Now that more resources are available, things will be much better, but I accomplished a hell of a lot with limited resources in the past. Folks, if you don't believe in me and this site, if you do not believe me, keep your money. I don't need this aggravation.
I have said from the start, that the primary purpose of this new system would be to finance the equipment costs, which it is already doing. If I have enough funds available, I will be very happy to keep my head buried in code doing my mad scientist bit and making this place really incredible. I am very good at what I do and given the time and resources, I can accomplish a lot. I am finally at a point where it looks like the time and resources are there and I am ready to work.
I imagine most of you know what happened to me last week. I am getting better and I am getting things back on track, but I do not need any stress in my life that I can avoid. If you believe in me and want to support this place, I thank you and ask that you stand back and let me work. If you do not believe in me, I understand, but don't waste my time and yours buying a membership. I don't want people to be dissatisfied with their purchase and I am trying hard to make sure no one has any unrealistic expectations going into this.
There is more to be said, but I am tired. I am sure this is a subject that will come up again. Eric

What assurances do we have that your assurances will be assuredly carried out!
Good grief what a bunch of nervous Nellies. I have only been on this since July of '07 but I can see Eric cares deeply for this site and it viability.
What do some of you want a written guarantee?
Written in Eric's blood?
He told us in several posts what he planned to do. I take Eric at his word. If the worst should happen, and I ain't happy with what Eric does  I just wont give Eric any more of my money! Simple.
Give the man time.
Get well soon Eric.

Sigh! Stay strong, Eric! When I was an active minister, I used to get questions like this from church board members all the time.
Pray you feel better. Be well!

Sorry - just too fraggled to make an intelligent comment. I've been around here for a while and know to trust Eric. When you've been around a while you will too...;

After hearing of your health issues I must admit I was feeling kind of foolish for having the question of the future of Glock Talk in my mind! At least I discussed it directly with Eddie C. and kept it out of the public view!
Stress makes people do and say things not normally part of their make up; but I would want to knock the stuffing out of the nay sayers and complainers! If they didn't have the balls to contact me directly with theses kind of questions after paying for the memberships it would really piss me off!

   This is about as direct a contact as possible. In fact, this sub-forum was made just for these type of inquiries.
Don't roll your ankle hopping off that high horse of yours though.
Health issues have no bearing on answering a simple question. Guess what, I find it completely unstressful typing on a computer while lying in a bed.
Why keep it out of public view? It is a very public question, Eric now receives payments from members, they now have as much stake in GT as he does now.
Don't like to be questioned? Tough, either stay private or be held accountable. Eric could be the patron saint of the catholic church for all I care, if you make a promise like upgrading hardware with our money then expect to be held up to that standard and questioned.
I have no beef with Eric and he has refunded my payment so I have no further stake in it. That's why I won't post any more questions. I will respond to people that have nothing to add to this thread other than garbage.
Singlemalt asked a very straight forward question that hasn't been answered yet.
14k in equipment is vague. Where does the other 11k dollars go? (We know at least 25k was brought in with those limited lifetime memberships.) That doesn't account for all the fundraisers and regular memberships sold. I can only speculate on how much money has been brought in for JUST GT so the question remains on why GT is going down so much or Eric has to spend a week at a time "repairing" these things. He should be able to afford some kick-ass equipment.
He doesn't have to answer me now that I am no longer paying so if no one wants to know then so be it.

I am going to ask you once nicely to direct any further comments you have concerning how I run my site to me personally. I find the fact that you keep pushing this publicly offensive and if you want to continue to enjoy my hospitality, you are going to knock it off. Do you go into other businesses and expect the owners to discuss their business practices and finances to your satisfaction in front of everyone else? Maybe you do. You certainly have no problem doing it here. How I run this place is not a matter for public debate and I have no intention of ever handling such matters in that way. I think you have been damned rude and I want it to stop. Eric
