remember the heavey duty looking 1911s that shot 45 winchester mag ?they seem like a natural comparison to a DE IMHO.The DE has them in price by 25 percent at least!

Are you sure it was Coonan Arms or was it LAR/Grizzly(sp)?
I know the Coonan made a .357Mag 1911 style all SS pistol but that is the only caliber that I am familiar with.
Coonan is .357, as far as I know.
Wildey and Grizzly made 45 magnums.
