good day gurus. i would like to ask for the advantages / disadvantages of different types of barrels available for ruger mark II or III. i have marked their models and barrels as displayed on their site. the target and standard models arent described what barrel they have but i think some shooters refer to them as tapered barrels?

HUNTER - flutted bull barrel

BULL - bull barrel

COMPETITION - slab bull

TARGET model

STANDARD model

there are also several barrel lengths available from 4" to 6 7/8". how big is the difference when it comes to accuracy given both are of the same barrel kind but different barrel lengths?

thanks for looking.

Depends on what you are goign to do with it. Longer barrel, longer sight radius equals increase accuracy if you do your part.

was just going to use it for plinking lang. how about the different type of barrels? are they all that different? i mean.... is accuracy that big a change?

between a 4' barrel and their 6 7/8" barrel, malaki ba difference ng accuracy? at what distance does it start to make a lot of difference?

i ask coz if im just going to shoot at 25 yards or something, baka kasi any type of barrel ang length wont affect accuracy pa. maybe the 50 yard length or something is where these starts to make a difference?

anyone? thanks

for plinking 25 yards and more, get the 5 1/2 and longer barrels. bull or tapered or fluted won't matter

thanks sir. may i ask hanggang saan lang ang accuracy ng 4"? initially, i was leaning towards the 4" na bull coz that's the shortest available sa local gun shop namin. i have plans putting a suppressor kaya the shorter the barrel, the better sana para hindi masyado mahaba ang over-all length.

ditto, it is a blowback. Barrel is fixed, Probabaly no barrel whip. If you want a lighter weight then the fluted is your choice. If you are going to shoot 50 yarders then get the longer barrel.

i have a 4 inch bull. you will get good accuracy at 25 yards

putting suppressors can affect you accuracy.

Turbulence generated by the bullet when passing the suppressor will affect accuracy. As to what extent, it would depend on a lot of factors (ammo used, suppressor used, how well the suppressor is aligned with the bore). A bad barrel-suppressor alignment will cause the bullet to touch part of the inside of the suppressor and you will have accuracy problems.

Match rifles don't have suppressors or muzzle brakes at the end of the barrel. A bonus when the BATF banned muzzle brakes/flash hiders during Clinton's time was that the AR rifles without muzzle brakes/flash hiders were more accurate than the original designs.

You might also want to look into the 22/45 models.

I noticed the accuracy on my SU-16CA suffered when I put a muzzle brake on it.

Mark 2- as stated, older version. magazine release at the heel of the grip. no magazine disconnect, no loaded chamber indicator.

Mark 3- new version with magazine disconnect, magazine release at the left side of grip before the trigger, loaded chamber indicator, tapered bolt ears.

22/45- previously stated

Mark 2-most sought after in the States, most people in the US hate the safety features. it sometimes cost more than the new mark 3.
