So I'm considering a trade deal for my MK9 and I go looking online earlier today and I'm realizing that the auction sites are now full of the plastic Kahr models like the CW9 and P9, ect. Barely a K9 or MK9 to be found.

So I took a trip to the local gunshop and Scheels which opened a new store a couple months ago. Get to the gunshop and all they have is a single Kahr CW9. When I get to Scheels they have a row of about 5 or 6 Kahrs, but they are all plastic models. So I ask to take a look at the PM9 along with a Colt Series 70 they have in the display case.

We do not have a great selection of guns locally and this is the first time I've actually held a PM9 in my hand.

Looking over the PM9 I was VERY turned off by it. I think the price was around $649 or so. First thing that I noticed was the magazine release was plastic and didn't work the greatest. Second was the grip seemed to be almost too thin and a little sharp so that it was somewhat uncomfortable to hold.

I racked the slide a few times and it wanted to stick a couple of times as it traveled along the rail channel. Seriously this has to be a joke, I'm thinking I can't believe that people buy these and for that much money.

Anyways, I put it back disgusted. I think I'll stick with my metal Kahrs.

Outerlimit,

There are A LOT of folks very happy with their polymer-framed Kahrs. I happen to have an MK9, which I bought (LNIB) over a PM9 because of the good deal that it was. You can find proponents of Kahr polymer pistols on the forum's of every major gun manufacturer (SIG, S&W, HK, etc. and here on Glock Talk).

If you are actually interested in a PM9 or the like, you should not let one sample guide your decision. Maybe it's been sitting in the display case for a while collecting dust, or maybe it left the factory w/out oil or grease on the rails, etc.

Did you handle any of the other Kahrs at Scheel's?

Some folks do comment that the PM9's grip can be a little sharp-edged for them, but there are solutions to address that.

Try not to be discouraged.

Regards,

Rob

Howdy Outerlimit:

You are more than welcome to shoot my Kahr PM 9 at our local Evans Shooting World indoor range here in Orange, CA. Has over 10,000+ 100% reliable digested rounds including rounds shot by Kahr forum members who have accepted my offer.

Weapons need to "settle" in thus Kahrs recommendation of 200+ rounds for break-in prior to carrying their weapons. And I might add, any weapon purchased must be broken-in before one relies on it for any purpose.

not a PM9, but my P45 smoothed out, I'm quite happy now

Other than those darn followers breaking in my magazine my CW9 has been flawless. The gun has never jammed or failed to eject anything I've run through it.

It's funny. I went shopping for a G26 to compliment my G19. I like the idea of using same mags and everything. On a whim, I asked to compare the G26 with the PM9 sitting next to it in the case. Game over. I was in love with the PM9 right away.

The grip might seem "sharp", but I find that it works well in keeping the little monster under control. Thin grip you say?!? That's what sold me on it! I have actually left the house and panicked that I left my gun at home because the damn thing was so small that I couldn't feel it hiding in the holster. What you may think are negatives are what made me choose the PM9.

My only concern when I handled the model in the store was how sharp the slide stop lever was. When I received mine, the lever was much rounder and smoother. Maybe Kahr made a slight design change or my lever spent more time in thr tumbler. I don't know, but I love my all black PM9. I'll never sell it. It'll be passed down to my kids after hopefully never leaving the holster in an emergency. If it does get used in defense, I'm sure it will go bang when it needs to.

A buddy of mine was up to Gander Mtn the other day looking at Kahrs. Was told the MK40 was on close-out and (if they could find one at another location), could be had for 450.00 NIB! Heck, I just bought mine 3 months ago used for 419.00. Between this news and the lack of a steel frame .45, it makes me wonder if Kahr is trying to phase out their K's. That would not be a good move IMHO. Everyone and their brother makes a plastic gun now. The steel Kahrs are the only metal framed striker-fired guns on the market. On the other hand, if they're not selling...

I wouldn't part with my MK40 for ANY plastic gun. If they started making aluminum or scandium frames I'd have to take a look.

I think it is just the opposite. I went to a gunshow over the weekend (small, about 400 tables) and was amazed at the number of new Kahrs I saw (at least a dozen CW9, CW40, MK40 and PM45).

My thought that Kahr must have caught up and lots of people have traded/purchased new ones.

I am also just the opposite of many posters here. I have 3 Kahrs; a PM9, an MK9, and a TP9. I have never really carried the MK9 and it just sits in the safe, while the other two get rotated based on my clothing. I've thought several times of selling it.

I also purchased (special ordered) an MK9 over the PM9 for similar reasons Outerlimit posted. Rocking the slide sideways nailed the coffin for the PM9 because it appeared to have to much play (compared to the MK9). That being said, I believe KAHR has worked out most of the problems with the polymer guns and I'll be buying a PM model one day soon. Hopefully the reported magazine breakage was just a supplier problem and they have fixed it.

Just an added note, the MK9 has been flawless as it has been super accurate.
