View Full Version : LA Area Transfers?

I don't know which forum would be the most appropriate for this question. But since I'm about to buy yet another Glock, I figured General Glocking should suffice :animlol:

It seems that dealers in Los Angeles area are out of their darn minds. The fee charged to do an out-of-state mail-in transfer ranges from $40 to $100 plus DROS fees  I suppose, I would bite the bullet if I was purchasing a $2000 firearm, but for a $450 Glock it hardly seems prudent to add an additional 10% for 20 minutes worth of paperwork. Just so you know, I did do searches on GunBroker and a couple of other sites and haven't been able to find anything cheaper locally. So here are my two questions:

1) Does anyone know a licensed dealer in LA area that charges a more reasonable amount?
2) If you had a firearm transferred from out-of-state, did you still have to pay the sales(use) tax?

Thanks in advance.

There are a number of resources for info on lower cost FFL's. And here is a great California gun site.
http://www.calguns.net

There are no additional taxes after the DROS bribe is paid.

The great state of California tells FFL's that they can charge $35 for FTF, but does not say anything about out of state stuff. I have one guy that currently charges me $50 for out of state but he is in Northern Calif, so no good for you. Look around, there are guys out there. However, the guy that charges me $50 tells me that charging $100 + DROS really makes sense when you consider what the state and the Fed put him through. Often 8 - 10 hours per month to review his books, etc...........

Thanks a lot! Appreciate the good info! Now that I know there's no sales tax it makes a lot more sense to get the gun shipped in from out of state. That way even I do end up paying $40-50 for transfer fee it would be about the same as paying the sales tax (on a ~$450-500 Glock) but the savings are still very significant. Thanks again.

Have you checked with Turners Outdoorsman? I have used them for local transfer ($35) but never with an out of state transfer.

I asked them last time I was there (their Reseda store). They told me it was $105  .... I wanted to tell the greedy SOBs to go hump themselves, but of course the polite boy that I am, I simply smiled and vowed to never buy another gun from them.

Here's a tip. Look for a reasonable, PROFESSIONAL, affordable, RELIABLE and TRUSTWORTHY FFL dealer.

Description in CAPS are worth the price.

If you go with a "cheap" price, guess what you're going to get? A "cheap" FFL dealer. Trust me. I've had my share of bad experiences with shiesty FFL dealers because I wanted to save a few bucks on fees.

Find a great FFL guy who knows his stuff off the bat and cling on him.
