View Full Version : Got me a .44 CKMustangCobra 08-21-2007, 21:23 It's pretty badass too. Any tips/tricks with the DEs? bac1023 08-22-2007, 18:59 Congrats! I have a brushed chrome 50AE and love it. As far as tips are concerned, don't limp wrist when firing and keep it clean. Oh, and get yourself a 50AE barrel.;) Let's see some pics as well! Algaroth 08-29-2007, 05:43 Very nice. I own a .44 as well. Mark I, to be more exact. Shoot good, quality ammo. Don't buy factory reloaded ammo to save a few bucks at the shooting range. These rounds need to be loaded pretty hot in order to function properly in the gun. Remington UMC 180gr is what I shot last time, and it cycles perfectly. Plenty of noise to exhilarate everyone in the range, haha. Like others have said, don't limp wrist. Keep it clean, as with any other firearm. With basic maintenance, these guns can function flawlessly for many, many rounds. From what I can tell, they are very reliable weapons. And most of all, have fun! It's a Desert Eagle! eddief4 09-01-2007, 16:40 congrats, they look like awesome guns:thumbsup: :wavey: CKMustangCobra 09-04-2007, 18:16 Sorry it took so long to reply with this thread.... I've been at the range since my original post! :) This is truely an awesome pistol. I've learned your advice already and I wish I had read this thread earlier. The gun is picky with the ammo. I've tried a few different factory loads and some reloads and it definatly likes the hot stuff. Both the gun and I love Remingtons SPJ. Mage flash and a bery loud noise. Everyone in the range is like, "WTF was that?" If I keep the target around 20 yards and shoot... I watch the flash, then the hole appear, then the entire target blow backwards from the shockwave! It's badass! I don't have a disassembly tool, so I improvized using a allen key and my knife. Take down was a lot easier than I thought. Shot a lot better once I got all the caked on gunk off from the previous owner... I don't think he ever cleaned it. Here are some pics. http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2461%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2462%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2463%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2464%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2465%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2466%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2467%20%28Large%29.JPG http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2468%20%28Large%29.JPG Size comparision to my daily carry, S&W Model 640 .357 http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2480%20%28Large%29.JPG The mag for the DE is almost as big as the S&W, LOLOLOL! http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2483%20%28Large%29.JPG .357mag vs .44mag http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2484%20%28Large%29.JPG :) :) :) :) :) Algaroth 09-04-2007, 18:56 Very nice! I love that finish. It looks good, but it's not too flashy. How do you like the finger grooves? Mine doesn't have that, being a Mark I, but I can change out the grip. I'm curious how comfortable the finger grooves are. Yes, shooting them is something to behold. Something every gun enthusiast should do at least once. I just love shooting mine. SAWMAN 09-06-2007, 07:47 I had a friend that bought a used DE(.44mag) from a old farmer in Maine. He knew nothing about them so he asked if i would clean it and ensure it was ready to be used for hunting. When I got a chance to look at it,I could not believe how dirty it was. Before cleaning it I took it out back and fired a mag full of my handloads thru it. It had no FTF's or FTE's. I couldn't believe it. I figured if the DE would operate under those conditions, there would be nothing that would stop them except some mechanical breakage/failure. I completely tore down the weapon and cleaned it using WD-40,pushed by 80psi fom my compressor, and followed by 80psi of dry air. I installed a set of ajustable hunting sights and a Hogue grip. I talked him into letting me guide him(no charge)on a moose hunt. He said that was agreeable IF(!)I would let him use some of my handloads. He had a cow tag for the upcoming Maine season and I knew of the perfect place to set him up.A little 1 acre pond surrounded by thick alders. Long story short.....cow appeared, shot thru both lungs, went down, tried to get up,next shot, broke the back, animal went down for keeps. All this at 30 yds. Cow weighted 680lbs and ate like a dream. Bullet used was a Hornady 265gr.,going "scary" fast. cdurand 09-08-2007, 17:16 Originally posted by SAWMAN I had a friend that bought a used DE(.44mag) from a old farmer in Maine. I love my Desert Eagles. I own three. They are a lot of fun at the range but every once in a while they get finicky on me. Especially 44Mag. Something about that long skinny case and stove piping. I've also noticed that no two Desert Eagles are alike. All three of mine have their own personalities. Other people with DE's have told me they'd agree. Keeping them clean is the obivous number one. cdurand 09-08-2007, 17:19 Originally posted by CKMustangCobra http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/261/IMG_2468%20%28Large%29.JPG You need to chrome that bolt. CKMustangCobra 09-09-2007, 08:29 Only FTF that I've had has been from limp wristing it. After the 7th rapid fire shot my hands were just a bit on the weak size. I need to tear this down all the way again, I had it pretty clean, went to the range... needs a good cleaning again. LOL. I want a chrome bolt, but cash is really limited right now and if I get a new bolt... there will be a new barrel and mag with it! :) Algaroth 09-09-2007, 21:24 The only malfunctions I've had with my .44, is using weak ammo. Last two range trips, I've used Remington UMC ammo, and it's pretty hot. The gun has functioned perfectly with that stuff. I'm gonna try different brands next time. And the muzzle flash from this stuff... I love it! Sig_NZ 09-11-2007, 03:06 The only way you EVER get stovepipes from the DE is with crap low powered ammo, or really bad limp-wristing it. The finger grooves grip is simply the best for softening recoil of the .44, and is particularly good for the big .50AE so I am told. Federal make the American Eagle 240gr JSP ammo, which is cheap as....but has heaps of grunt and the brass is great for reloading. However if you do reload I would reccomend using the Speer Gold Dot JHP 240gr projectiles as these are a good price and very reliable with feeding. Sometimes if you dont use FMJ ammo the round can get stuck going into the chamber....which is arse! Anywho, keep a good grip and have fun! There certainly aren't many guns like the Desert Eagle when it comes to Magnum semi-autos. Strabo! CKMustangCobra 09-11-2007, 06:35 I've used some weak ammo too, didn't even cycle the gun enough to pick up another round. I don't count those as failures. We (buddie and I) have found a reload combo that we are pretty happy with, but it still doesn't have the power or flash/noise of a factory Remington... we are working on it though. 180g hollowpoint FMJ, bluedot (12g I think, MAX load) and Remington brass (takes a beating). We also crimp the end and it cycles in my gun with ease. We are going to try a 240g and try H-110 power next... we hear that stuff is nuts. Sig_NZ 09-11-2007, 14:56 It is! I use speer 240gr JHP GOLD DOT projectiles with ADI AR2205 (similar to H-110) and it works a treat. I reload with a Dillon RL550B press, which makes it quick and easy to pump out quality reloaded ammo for my DE. I just got the dies for 50AE, so will have to order a bbl soon...:) CKMustangCobra 09-23-2007, 18:30 Hornady FMJ Hollow 180s, 25gr of H-110 and Remington brass. EXTREME flash, nice boom, accurate as hell, cycled the DE perfectly and was actually a little cleaner than factory Remington loads. We have a winnAr! Algaroth 09-24-2007, 20:54 Heh, I love an epic flash. Percival 09-29-2007, 14:42 Though similar powders, my Mk7 likes 296 over H110, but it loves 2400. A tad on the dirty side, but reliable a load as I have found. Haven't shot any factory through it, Wonderwolf did though, and accuracy was superb. I currently load Rainier 240gr bullets(HHP and the TCJ, both work well) Remington cases, Winchester Primers, and 19grains of 2400. OAL is 1.56. They come out at around 1200FPS for me. They're a blast, but you need more mags...I've got eight in .44, one in .357(don't have the barrel yet) and one in .50(need another gun) Percival spober 10-13-2007, 16:37 i absoluty have to get a DE in at least 44 mag ,prefereably 50ae.it needs to stay at the top of my must have list. Algaroth 10-14-2007, 01:51 Originally posted by spober i absoluty have to get a DE in at least 44 mag ,prefereably 50ae.it needs to stay at the top of my must have list. Go for it, man. They're too much fun, and they are beautiful, very well-refined pieces of machinery. SAWMAN 10-15-2007, 09:18 .....thought of them as "well-refined",but yeah, they are that. They are tanks. They are very well designed. I have never herd of a DE simply breaking due to a design flaw or just wearing out. I have a buddy that claims to have 5000+ rds thru a older .44. Most of them are full power handloads. He has never replaced a single part including the recoil spring assy.,extractor, gas piston, etc. He has even shot hardcast thru the weapon followed by a VERY thorough cleaning. (CAUTION: this is not reccommended) My old MK1 is still going strong after 16 years of fairly hard use. I'm sure it will out live me. Algaroth 10-15-2007, 19:36 Yeah, nobody ever thinks anything of these pistols other than they're big, loud, powerful and fun. If you think about it, they are very well-refined weapons, very well designed and quite reliable. I've never heard of one breaking, or wearing out. Oddly though, the rear sight on mine is loose. I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed. But that's the first and probably last thing that will ever go wrong with this weapon. CKMustangCobra 10-22-2007, 08:15 I've had a few issues with mine... but it's a small price to pay for one. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
